Senior Men C1 Result - Round 4, 2008-2009
Another good win against one of the top 4 sides.
Week 1
Playing on a low and slow Greenway wicket against an attack that was accurate but lacked pace run scoring was tougher than normal. After struggling at 2/12 we had a series of good partnerships that got us to 239 a good competitive score. Welcome back to John Mitchell who just got back from overseas with a really important 41. Enter John Steel our one man wrecking ball who if he gets away will do big damage and quickly. Backing up his 93 from last week, John belted 109 that set the game up for us.
By getting the runs in 59 overs we had a good session to get wickets. In the 13 overs before stumps we had them 3/74 wickets down being the most important outcome.
Week 2
After a slow start we geared up. John Steel made a claim for undisputed Man of the Match with a stunning bowling performance of 5/32 all being bowled by good straight bowling. Our spinners again did well with Kishore and Hutch making contributions. Chris will get his go next match. We ended up rolling them for 186 well short of our total.
This win now outs us to the top of the table and with players like Gus to come back in with some leg spin bowling support from DA we have a very competitive side that ion our day will score big runs quickly.
Summary
A problem with our performances is that we are no longer flying under the radar to the extent that we have now been re-graded to B2. We take our points with us and remain in 1st place but with stronger competition.
Coming up
Lets keep a look out for 2 major personal milestones:
Kishore is fast approaching his 4,000 runs putting him in the top 10 WPHC players of all time. He now has 3,957 runs wow!
Craig Hutchinson 98 career wickets so just 2 from the 100 wicket milestone.
Next week
We play Hornsby in B2 at Campbell Park the team we played the C1 Final against last year.
