Senior Men C1 Result - Round 1, 2007-2008
We finally got on after a day 1 washout. Some things never change with John losing the toss and Tony Hadley making to trip across from Perth to play – a bit like Groundhog day.
This year we have a very good mix of youth and experience with every player at least C1 standard – many higher.
Welcome back to John, Kishore, Tony Hadley, Andrew Watt, Ross A and Nathan Fathers. Pat joins us after the HSC. A big welcome to the new blokes – John Steel. Ben McNamarra, Dave Meizis, Andrew Fiedler and Senth. Craig Willmott joins us soon as does Sahill and Michael McDowell – wow, what a powerful team. On to the game.
Batting first we made a real impact. Andrew started off with a fabulous straight drive for 4 and finished up with a very good 19. Dave copped a good one first up but he has a lot of runs in him this year. Ross A scored a chanceless 61* before retiring with a slight leg strain. In the meantime, John Steel scored busy 20 with a couple of super straight drives. Enter the great tony Hadley who scored a typically effortless 40 odd with Andrew Watt causing late damage with the bat. All up, a very good first up effort with lots of fire power to come. If this was a 2 day game on a fast ground the score could have been anything against an attack that is pretty good - especially early on. We bat down to Number 11 comfortably.
In the field, while the scores looked close we were never really threatened. Andrew started where he left off last season with 2/16 and Senthu bowled with god pace and movement for his 2/14. Ben was also sharp and while he went for a few (2/36) showed there is a lot of wickets to come.
Finally, the fielding was outstanding. Some great catching by Dave and a really committed effort in the field. If we use this game as the benchmark we are going to give this comp a reall shake.
Next week we play ARL at Annangrove and they will be tougher again. So far, so good.
C1 3/176 defeated Hornsby 7/168
