Seniors C Result - Round 13, 2006-2007
Another big win, making this our 3rd on the trot. In fact, going into the last Round we are the only team in C1 with this winning record – making us the most consistent team over the last 6 weeks – only 2 more to go.
What a game. After scoring 304 we probably made the mistake of expecting to win without making the effort. After the first drinks break they had effectively batted for 22 overs and hadn’t lost a wicket. This was one of those games where they got away a few times but we pegged them back. Our bowling was patchy, some fabulous spells but mixed with the odd wayward patch. Similarly, our fielding was generally good with the odd chance/near chance put down.
The last 10 overs saw us click into the form we have been displaying since the Christmas break. Andrew and Chris were especially outstanding and destroyed the resistance. In the end we rolled them for 297 – just 7 runs short of our total.
In the bowling, Kishore was again outstanding getting valuable wickets at key stages, Chris finished off the lower order and Andrew just blew some of their batsmen off the Park. Patrick also bowled well again getting a crucial wicket with a good catch by Andrew looking into the sun. It was also good to see Bryce yet again bowl well. How good was John Mitchell with his leggies. If we get to the Semi Finals he could be yet another surprise packet in the bowling who is a genuine wicket taker.
Going into the last Round we control our own destiny to an extent. We are on 47 points and Hornsby is on 48 points. We play 2nd placed Glenhaven who we must beat. What makes this interesting is that Hornsby, the only side we can challenge for the Semi’s plays St Ives who are coming first and they must beat them. The equation is simple, we win and they lose/draw and we play in the big ones.
If we get there we will be a very tough side to beat.
