Seniors A Result - Round 9, 2006-2007
WPHC 5/149 (M.McGregor 53*, M.Dawson 42) defeated St Ives 146 (P.Stott 4/31)
A new year, and our first game of 2007 was against our friendly rivals, St Ives. Back to losing tosses, we were asked to bowl. St Ives put on 40 for the 1st wicket, before the Stotty-Spaldo combo got us into gear with the ball. Trouty bowled beautifully against his former teammates to grab 4/31, and Spaldo though he was in Richmond, as he bowled maiden after maiden, to claim 2/9 off his 8 overs. Smokey grabbed 2 wickets, with Thinker and Snumpty getting 1 each, as we rolled St Ives for 146. A great effort with the ball, but after some good early fielding, we let ourselves down with too many basic errors. However, Zouk took a couple of snares at slip, Troy got a fantastic stumping, and Afgan did well in the field, throwing himself around more than Thinker at a fat camp.
With the bat, we struggled early on, being 4/40. Although losing early wickets, we remained above the required run rate, thanks to some boundary hitting by Lalin, who made 27. It was then Macca and Smokey, who came together to put on 97 for the 5th wicket, and virtually get us to victory. Smokey made 42, with Macca getting a well deserved 53*, and hitting the winning runs. Stotty was not out at the end, to be on the winning team, and warrant the 38 phone calls he made to his former teammates during the night.
Well done guys. This puts us into 5th place, and gives us an opportunity to play some positive cricket for the remainder of the season.
