Seniors A Result - Round 5, 2006-2007

WPHC 7/220 (M.Dawson 62*, A.Marzouk 55, S.Smyth 41*, P.Reid 30) defeated Kissing Point 5/216 (A.Marzouk 3/15)

A must-win one-dayer, and a warm day greeted us at Parklands. With half the team needing to leave early to see U2, Snumpty won the toss and sent Kissing Point in. After a few overs, it was evident that the pitch and outfield was very batsman-friendly.

After a bad start, the introduction of Zouk into the attack lead to instant success, with Amir claiming a wicket with his first ball. Amir took 3/15 off his 8 overs, to easily be the pick of our bolwers. Trouty also bolwed well, without luck, and together with Zouk, stemmed the tide of runs. Spaldo chipped in with a wicket, and Doc showed some classy fielding, with a direct hit run-out. Troy took 2 catches behind the stumps, as our opponents made 5/216 off their 40 overs.

After losing our openers, Zouk and Afgan set out to get us into the run chase. Zouk was smashing 4's all over the place, and Afgan provided the perfect support up the other end. The pair put on 60 for the 3rd wicket, but the loss of Afgan lead to us losing 3 quick wickets. Doc made an important 30 through the middle of the innings, but once again, 2 more quick wickets left us in trouble. Smokey and Snumpty came together at 7/127, still requiring a further 90 off 15 overs, with only Thinker to bat. Snumpty got away with 4 boundaries, and the 2 got down to business with good running, and an uncanny ability from Smoke to hit a boundary when required. The 6 he hit off the last ball of the 39th over, saw the pendulum swing heavily in our favour, as it left us with only 5 to get in the last over. The win was sealed on the 2nd last ball, when Smoke hit another 4 over mid-wicket.

Great to finally get a win on the board, andthis will hopefully inspire us to playing some more consistent cricket.
