Seniors A2 Result - Round 4, 2006-2007
Greenway - vs. Kenthurst 21/10/2006 & 28/10/2006
Result - WPHCCC 314 (M Banner 103 , R Edwick 57* M Boon 39 , A Driscoll 34 ) drew with Kenthurst (O Bridgman 137)
Day 1:
WPH batted on a cool day at Greenway against Kenthurst. The openners brought up the 50 without loss past drinks, with Volc leading the way with most of the runs. Jobbo replaced Jamaican and was moving well until a loose shot but had done the job with the score 2/128. After tea Volc continued to erupt with runs all around the park and with Boony at the other end the cricket was very exciting. Congratulations to Volc who brought up a fine ton (103) and could only be removed by Macca once again raising that finger. (All team are nervous when Macca is umpiring)
Boony followed for a fine 39 and the team total was passed 200. Ranga Ediriwickrama (57*) playing his first game of the year showed his class and held the innings together along with contributing strongly to the fine tin with 14 dollars in one day! Voice was once again in the runs with some explosive shots to score 34 only to be bowled out on the 7 ball of the over. (Umpires and Scorers are still arguing this fact to this day!)
Kenthurst slowed the number of overs they were bowling (6 overs in 35 mins) after 5pm and with the light fading there was a push to swing for some cheap runs before Day 2. WPH finished the day at 8/314.
Day 2:
WPH declared before start of play setting Kenthust 315 for victory. An early wicket to Jamaican to remove Col Griffin was a major boost after dropping him in the 4th over. After that WPH struggled with some less than desireable fielding assisting the kenthurst bats to get on top. The runs kept coming while the left handed batsmen played shots through a slip cordon with 3 or 4 slips and 2 gullies , we also helped him with some dropped chances. Drinks went by then tea with Kenthurst around 150 for 1.
Ranga came on and removed the left hander and Flanders in the next over removed the new bat for a golden. WPH were pumped trying to get on a roll. Kenthurst then steadied up to plan the chase and with Owen Bridgman bringing up his hundred things were looking grim. WPH removed Bridgman for the 4th wicket with 255 on the board , Kenthurst needing 60 runs off about 9/10 overs. Some straight bowling made it tough for Kenthurst and 3 further wickets fell , including a run out by Jamaican. Kenthurst were unable to get the 9 runs off the last over to win and the teams had a draw. What does it say that A2's play on Greenway and neither team could be bowled out and over 600 runs scored?
Notes
- Volc scored a top hundred - 103.
- Ranga playing his 1st game of the year scored 57* and was the pick of the bowlers, 2 wickets
- Jamaican 2 wickets.
