Seniors C2 Result - Round 5, 2004-2005

Round 5 v Berowra @ Montview Oval

(Day 1 of 2)

With Elegant Rabbit still interstate and Uder unable to play the first week, Buckets captained the side for the match. The day started 10 minutes late due to the Berowra team not having their cricket kit with them and, therefore, they were unable to put their stumps in. WPHCCC offered our stumps, as we had spares, but we lacked a couple of more bails. Suggestions of using twigs for bails were dismissed immediately.

The kit arrived soon after and the toss was done with Buckets winning and sending the Berowra team into bat. The decision looked a good one after Rhino bowled the opener in his first over the match with Thinker also getting one of the openers, bowled, from the last ball of his second over.

At 2 for 5, WPHCCC looked a good chance of rolling Berowra for a cheap score. The day did not eventuate as planned, however, as a good middle order revival kept Berowra in the match. At 4/113 off 42 overs, the batting team looked solid and with the opening and first change bowlers bowling particularly well, Buckets decided to rest them and bring on Seabiscuit to change the pace with some spin. This backfired with Seabiscuit, although not helped from the small side boundaries, got spanked for 38 off his 4 overs including 19 off one over.

Funzo was brought on afterwards and had immediate success with the dismissal of the big hitting Dallanger for 69. Goggles took a brillant catch and also a brillant display of calling when the ball flew into the air at midwicket and Googles getting there with ease.

At 5/151, Berowra were still sitting pretty until a mixup in the running between wickets saw Seabiscuit deliver the ball to Googles for the easy runout. With Rhino and Funzo finishing the tail off the Berowra team was dismissed for 189.

With 9 overs left in the day, Buckets sent in Googles and Sonny Bill to open and see out the first day. The did as the captain asked and the WPHCCC ended the day 0/10.

(Day 2 of 2)

Googles was running late from work on the second day of the match and the good sportsmanship shown by the Berowra captain allowed the game to start late again to allow Googles to bat. Unfortunately for Googles, he was dismissed LBW to Gannon early on Day 2 for 7.

Chook sent in at number 3 left without really troubling the scorers for 2 and Sonny Bill also going cheaply for 6. At 3 for 17 and a gusty wind helping the Berowra bowling, the WPHCCC looked in dire need of a good partnership to see us to victory. Up stepped Seabiscuit and Uder who formed an excellent partnership of 81 to see us right back into the game.

At 3/98, Uder was bowled to a good ball for 50 and once again the wickets fell leaving only Seabiscuit, as usual, to hold up one end. Please joined Seabiscuit and a very valuable 37 run stand helped us creep ever closer to the target. Funzo, batting down the order for a change, looked good until he was bowled for 6. Seabiscuit's brillant stay at the crease was ended after he was bowled for 69 and the team at 8/165. 23 joined Thinker at the crease and their very good batting saw the team win the match and continue the teams good unbeaten form.

23 and Thinker looked very good batting and the result was never in doubt, although Buckets was not looking forward to bat to win the match. Luckily for him, he was not needed.
