West Pennant Hills Cherrybrook Cricket Club Est. 1930

Round 5, Day 1 (8th November)

With a number of key players unavailable throughout the Grades this Round it was always going to be tough but there have been many highlights and encouragingly good performances. Here goes:
+ A Grade (with B1) has been the most affected team with shortages but still managed to score 202 and have Asquith at 2/31. Peter Whitehead (42) and opening bowler Kevin Wong (43) made solid contributions
+ The mighty C3's (a relatively new grade) under the fantastic leadership of Steve Quanborough set yet another record partnership yesterday - their second record this year. Robert Trieste (45) and Bill Donohoe (25) scored 84 for the first wicket beating the previous Club record of 44 by Craig Willmott and Shannon Hinkley in 2001/02.
+ A2 playing against a good attack struggled to 105 all out. However, they have fought back very well to have Castle hill 5/53 - still very much game on
+ B1 have also been heavily affected by injuries and shortages this week but still powered to 250. Tim Coverdale 48 and Mark Taylor 74 continue their super form this year and provided a good base for us to score 250 against a strong Hornsby side
+ The highlight of the B1 innings was fantastic partnership of 84 between Mark and Matt Davidson in 30 minutes.
+ For those interested in Club trivia, Allan Raffel (and u16 graduate coming up from C3) played B2 and took a very good catch with the first ball after he put the gloves on. Nick Bennett playing C3 came up from the Juniors and scored a very good 42 in his first game in Seniors.
+ Allan also contributed a very solid 19* batting at 5 against a good attack.
+ B2 Blue continued their unbeaten run with a solid performance against te number 3 ranked Kissing Point. Stars of the day were Glen Harvey (3/14) and his support crew - Andrew Mills who took 3 brilliant catches off Glen at 1st slip in 3 overs - including 2 in one over.
+ The outstanding Club batting performance came from Nathan Orton (C2 Red) who scored 90 unfortunately playing against our Blue side. Well done Nathan
+ In yet another fabulous performance from one of our juniors promoted to help in higher grades, Brendan Ham (fron D2) played for B2 Red and took 3/17.
