Kanga Cricket Season 2007/2008
Kanga Registrations for the 2007-08 season are taken on Sunday 29th July 2008. All the dates are covered in previous sections.
The second half of the season will see a change to the organisation of the Saturday morning session.
Kanga format
A typical Kanga morning starts at 8.00am sharp. There will be a skills session for the players and coaches and managers until 8.40am.
The second session will be the Kanga game itself. Later in the season we play against other Kanga teams. Scores are kept and an unofficial competition point score will be noted but we stress that this is not competition.
Parents are asked to encourage in a positive manner and to encourage the whole team not just those players who show greater skills. All players will be encouraged to bat, bowl and field. No one will be excluded even if they feel they are not able to bowl correctly or bat properly. These games are run so that they are enjoyable to all players and spectators alike.
Development squad
For our 'experienced' Kangas we have a ‘development’ squad - typically children who graduate into U9's the following season to help with their transition. The squad practice in the adjoining Club nets following the Saturday morning Kanga activities, it is not instead of the Kanga games.
The big game
Each year we have a Kanga Dads game Vs the Senior cricketers of our Club. This has been going for som eyears now and is very popular. We often find that many of the dads realise they still have the skills and make a comeback.
Other events
During the season we have a Twilight game played at Edward Bennett Oval Cherrybrook. These games are played from 6.00pm and finish at 7.30pm. We often combine this with a BBQ and make it areal family night. It is one of the highlights of the year.
