Junior Boys U12 Blue Result - Round 5, 2008-2009
Our Round 5 game against Kissing Point was a thriller and showed the level of improvement in each of the boys.
Week 1
Kissing Point batted first and scored 113 on a small but slow Cliff Oval. A good part of the innings was that everyone improved with their bowling. Our wicket takers were James with 2/11, Sean 2/12, Jed 1/6, Ben 1/7, Harry 1/12 and Sid 1/13. The pitch was very narrow and made bowling difficult. They only scored 60 runs off the bat but with wides (25), no balls (23) and 5 byes (a great effort) they got a competitive score. Our ground fielding was a lot better and when combined with our catching we are doing a lot right in these areas.
After getting them out we had to bat for 6 overs at the end. We lost Sean Jed and Ben but still had wickets in hand to have a go at the score.
Week 2
It must be something about week 2 of games – wet and colder with an outfield that was slower again. While we just missed out on their score by 10 runs we gave it a real shot. How good was Arie. This is his first ever season if cricket and opened the batting against a Rep bowler. He batted for 12 overs and scored his first runs in finishing with 2 but saw off the good bowling.
John (17) and Sid (8) put on 41 for the 6th wicket and their score started to become gettable. Sid’s batting is improving every match by playing very straight and has now been involved in 2 big partnerships.
Enter Harry who has just needed to make his batting technique a little simpler and only hit the balls off the wicket. He had a fabulous game slamming 35* to almost get us across the line. It is the best he has batted all year and has now set the bar. Owen was last player out when he was runout but he attempted an unselfish run.
While we lost there are signs of improvement in every player which is our goal this year.
Next match
Our next match is against Normanhurst-Warrawee Red at Samuel King Oval.
Ross, John and Raj
