Junior Boys U14 Blue Result - Round 1, 2008-2009

After having our season delayed by a week due to an unplayable ground we moved to Edward Bennett Oval for a one-dayer against our White team over 30 overs.

Winning the toss we batted and set a target that was going to be tough to get. Sid opened the batting with Ronic. They put on a really good opening partnership with Sid getting 52 not out with some great shots. Ronic especially looks a much more complete player this year and will get a lot of runs. We only lost 6 wickets and everyone did their job. Madds was brilliant. He got 39. The way he got them was impressive including a massive 6 that hit a house.

Our turn to bowl. Angus and Ryan opened the bowling and will cause a lot of damage to teams this season – they looked really good hitting a good length every time. Angus took 4 wickets for 6 runs including a brilliant caught and bowled in the first over that set us on the way to a big win. Like the batting, everyone who bowled did their job well. DA took 2 wickets off 3 overs with great support from Madds who got a brilliant stumping. Ryan bowled well taking a wicket. Matt bowled well taking 1 wicket. Sid bowled like always – fast and straight and will again take a lot of wickets. He only bowled a couple of overs before the light became too dark for his bowling.

Our fielding was also outstanding with 5 catches being taken.

The Whites are a good side but on the day our batting, bowling and fielding was just too good. If we can build on this we will give other sides a real run this season.

There is a long time to go but after one game we are leading the Competition on quotient.

Next match
We play Normanhurst/Warrawee at Howson Oval starting on the 11th October. As this is a new ground for us it can be found on our website www.wphccc.org under ‘Ground locations’.
