Junior Boys Under 9 Sky Result - Round 7, 2007-2008

Sky cricket team won the toss and decided to bat under very overcast conditions which favoured the Normanhurst team due to the wet and slow outfield.


Batting


Leon & Brendon

Sky was under pressure from the first ball when they lost their first wicket due to sharp fielding by the opposition when the opening pair were attempting a second run. Leon thumped a big six over square leg to the delight of the onlookers. The partnership settled after losing the second wicket with Brendon playing some lovely shots off the legs which contributed to an opening partnership of 21 runs.

Aaron & Sachin

The run rate steadily increased with this partnership as Aaron played a lovely array of shots off the legs and runs were sometimes denied by excellent fielding by the opposition. Sachin increased in confidence with his best shot a backfoot drive which delighted the onlookers in the crowd. This partnership yielded 35 runs for the lost of one wicket.

Josh & Thushira

This pair consolidated the innings ensuring that Sky did not lose anymore wickets with Josh playing beautiful on-drives to a impenetrable field where the opposition raised their fielding. Thushira at the other end played some handsome hits which also found the impenetrable field. This pair steadied the ship in regards to wickets and collectively contributed a partnership of 9 runs.

Nam & Shane

This pairing also steadied the innings without losing anymore wickets with a solid partnership where the opposition bowled tightly making it difficult to score but this pair rotated the strike when the opportunity arose. This partnership yielded 7 runs.

Jack & Darshan

With the Sky team running out of overs this pair lifted the strike rate with Jack playing some lusty flicks off the legs which injected the run rate. Darshan at the other end played a lovely punch drive off the backfoot for four to open his innings which was quickly followed with a pull through square leg for four which delighted the crowd. This partnership contributed 18 runs for the lost of one wicket.

Sky closed their innings on 86 for 4 wkts

Bowling

Normanhurst took to the field where the opening bowlers Darshan & Shane bowled steadily and were rewarded with the first wicket to a beautiful diving catch by Leon which delighted the onlookers. Shane quickly followed with the second wicket to a beautiful delivery which nipped back through the gates. The wicketkeeper also joined the act with a beautiful diving catch to remove the third wicket. Good bowling by Nam & Josh at each end kept the pressure up with the runs drying up. Thushira & Brendon maintained the pressure until Normanhurst performed a spirited rearguard action with some lusty hitting through squareleg on several occasions which included a massive six. Sachin, Leon & Jack tried to stem the flow of runs but Normanhurst lifted their game to a higher level and were victorious in the end. Very good team performance by both teams.
