Junior Boys Under 14 Blue Result - Round 2, 2007-2008
WPHC Blues were superb in their victory in their 2nd round game against Normanhurst Warawee Reds…
The WPHC Blues batting first put on a formidable 216 for 5 with Wynston playing a patient & masterful innings top scoring with 78 no. Stuart Turner and Wynston started the blues innings well before Stuart got out for an excellent catch. Sahil Talpade batting at the crucial no 3 spot was unlucky to be out before he could get into his usual rhythm. Ashane De Silva joined Wynston and they put on an excellent partnership in quick time. Ashane batted with authority, showing a good mix of defence and aggression before he was out caught chasing a ball that should have been left. Young Joel Mather who joined Wynston was probably my batsman of the day, his patient innings helped Wynston to play his natural game. Joel played the anchor role which helped the blues to build the score our super coach Geoff Hickman had discussed at the break. Steve McFarlane was unlucky to be out early but Jake Hickman and Aiden Mather batted well with Jake playing some excellent attacking shots.
Normo Reds in their innings started promisingly before our bowlers struck at regular intervals to take key wickets. Wynston & Lachlan Blue who opened the bowling kept it very tight frustrating the batsman before Sahil who took two wickets in one over and the rest of the bowlers cleaned the Reds up with a superb display of disciplined bowling. It was good to see Gautam, Amol and Aiden having a good bowl with Gautam bowling 5 overs for 7 runs. Fielding on the whole was good with the boys looking very focused on the field. A point of improvement was that Blues dropped 2-3 catches which may have proved costly if the game was any tighter. On the whole good effort by the WPH BLUES… WELL DONE BOYS… WELL DONE COACH…
