After a washout on day 1 of the season our new team had to gel quickly for a 32 over per side match. Normanhurst batted first and we grabbed 2 quick wickets before a 50 run partnership steadied the opposition. At 2/63 Stephen W took a blinder of a catch at square leg to break the partnership. Normo were soon 4/67 after Aditya picked up his 2nd wicket. The opposition again steadied taking the score to 101 without further loss. But the fall of the 5th wicket signalled a collapse created by a combination of good bowling and sharp fielding. Normanhurst were bundled out for 117 in the 30th over. Stephen W was our best in the field with 2 wickets, a brilliant catch and 2 run-outs. Aditya also picked up 2 wickets.

Our batting order was disrupted with both regular openers missing and top order player Alex R suffering with a back problem. A procession of early wickets had us reeling at 5/29 including 2 run-outs. Then a fantastic 53 run partnership between Jason & Alex M put us back on track to win the game. Jason worked the ball around sensibly while Alex M played with a mixture of aggression and good placement. Once Jason (17) was out we lost our momentum and sadly Alex M (34) was out just 1 run later. After being tied down by some very accurate bowling Alex R tried hard to get us home with some a quick fire runs at the end but he ran out of partners.

After a very good effort in the field we let ourselves down with the bat. We need to learn to stay patient when chasing relatively small totals. But there were plenty of positive signs in our first game. Stephen Y was awarded the match ball for his first ever wicket.
