Junior Boys Under 14 Blue Result - Round 1, 2007-2008

With wet weather around on Day 1 (a typical start to the cricket season) we were lucky to get some cricket in. Having lost the toss we were sent in but a great opening partnership between Stuart and Wynston saw us reach 1/72 after 24 overs when a heavy rain shower flooded the ground and finished play for the day.
A beautiful Day 2 greeted us and we had 16 overs to build our score into a defendable total. Stuart went on to post his first ever 50, finishing with 55 and was ably supported by Saahil who scored 21. Unfortunately we lost our way in the last 6 overs, however finished with a respectable 4/129.
The parents were enjoying the cricket, the weather and the constant banter between Umpire Darren and Scorer Pat, whilst Venessa provided the welcome morning coffees.
The team started well with a early run out and wicket by Joel. After 20 overs we had restricted the score to 40 and has extra risks were taken wickets began to fall. The Mathers boys (Joel 2/20 and Aiden 2/13) were the stars, with wickets also to Amol, Jake, Stephen and newcomer Jordan. All players had at least two overs and the fielding was good. The socre after 40 overs was 8/89 and a comprehensive win.
Special mention to another newcomer Lachlan who was thrown in to open the bowling and bowled a great 5 over spell to finish at 0/4 and aso Ashane who bowled with great accuracy and variety to finish with 0/5.
Man of the match was Stuart, our new captain with his first ever 50.
The games will get tougher, so keep working hard at training and we will keep improving and have fun, our keys goals for the season.
