Seniors
Day 1 of the Semi Finals was played on Saturday. The results are:
A1 9/241 Vs St Ives after a great middle and lower order comeback weve managed to post a very defendable score. St Ives had us 4 for 50, but then Simon Davies (55) and Matt Dawson (40) rescued us for the second week in a row. This was followed by solid contributions from all of the lower order, including a cracking 30 from Peter Stott, despite showers spicing up the pitch every hour or so. We batted out the day for only the second time this year, finishing on 9 for 241. With ARL a good chance of going down in their Semi this is a very good result.
A2 118 & 0/3 defeated St Ives 51 after losing the toss, St Ives decided to put us into bat on a grassy looking Turramurra deck, nothing unusual or unexpected about that. After losing a few wickets we were looking rather shaky sitting at 3/9 off the first 10. After some consolidation by Amir Marzouk and James Fiedler we managed to get some runs on the board but unfortunately wickets kept falling, leaving us at 5/46 at the lunch break with runs very hard to come by. After a great dig from Michael Quieros (40) including two sixes, we managed to reach a defendable target of 118 feeling full confident our bowling attack could take some early poles. It took 8 runs to get our first, and then they fell at regular intervals. Darren Morrow and Dylan Brogan were superb - bowling 13 over opening spells each, finishing with 4/22 and 3/12 respectively. Matt Jobson chipped in at the end with 2/5 as we completely tore apart the St Ives batting line-up for a mere 51 runs. First innings is now secure but a long way to go in this match - we must make sure we bat well next week to ensure we take the game.
Colts Red 90 Vs Berowra 5/57 a typical score on a typical Glade strip. Runs were very hard to get for both teams and Rob Aitken (26), Carl Madsen (24), Tim Anderson (17) and Daniel Brain (15) all batted positively to score the bulk of our runs. In reply Berowra have only managed 57 off 33 overs with the loss of 5 of their best batsmen. The match is very delicately poised and the early overs next Saturday will be most critical in determining which team will progress to the final.
B1 4/40 Vs Berowra 211 not a lot to report here, our worst day of the season. Berowra arrived fired up ready to play and have put on their best performance of the year we have pulled out our worst. In the field we dropped 10 catches and lacked any intensity. Rowan Keating was best taking 5/62 and Rhino Cherrie took 2/32. With just over an hour to bat we needed to be patient and look towards next week, but we played loose shots loosing unnecessary wickets. We have batting to come and will fight to the end, but we have it all to do next week. Congratulations to Rowan Keating who took his 100th wicket.
B2 112 defeated by St Ives 9/166 not the best of days for us, but this is what semi finals cricket is all about. Losing the toss and being sent into bat on a damp and slow Headen Park, we never got going with the bat, at one point slumping to be 7/58, before the tail wagged slightly to get us up into triple figures and Give us something to bowl at. Lachlan McBrien (30*) and Nick Starr (25) the only positives with the bat.
Going out to defend 112 was never going to be easy, but a sensational opening spell from Ben McNamara (5/42) and Geoff Richards (2/34) ripped through the top order and leave them reeling at 6/37. However, this brought some tail-end hacks to the crease, and they slogged and swiped their way past our total 8 wickets down (albeit aided by a handful of missed opportunities) and into a strong position leading into the second day next week. Lachlan McBrien the only other wicket taker with 2/37.
Although we have gone down on the first innings, this game is going to go down to the wire in the 4th innings, as we have plenty of firepower with the bat ready to fire next week and get us the result we need.
C1 54 lost to Castle Hill 4/140 finals are a different game and this proven yet again. The turning point came when our 3 most reliable batsman (DA, Kishore and Eric) went cheaply. The bowling was adequate but a combination of poor shot selection, bad luck and some interesting decisions all went against us. We bowled well with the bat being beaten many times and again luck deserting us. It is not often that everything combines in one day but thats cricket. Next week will take a huge effort to get across the line but stranger things have happened although in this case it might be an opportunity to enjoy the day.
C2 44 lost to Mt Colah 4/122 we lost the toss and it went downhill from there. After losing 2 wickets in 7 balls we never really recovered. Peter Heidegger with 35 the only significant contributor in our score of 88. The 16th over of Colahs innings gave us some hope as Mark Bell took wickets with the 1st 3rd and 5th deliveries to have them 3 for 28. But some disciplined batting from them saw them pass our score without further loss of wicket. Roll on next week as we seek an outright!
C3
White 145 Vs Mt Colah 5/50 we continued on our winning run of tosses (Skipper Fiedler hasn't lost one since round 8), and batted with the intention of putting as much distance between us & 4th place Mt Colah. At 1/71, everything was going according to plan, however with Brendan Harkin's demise for 36, the wheels started falling off. Michael Kramer Richards kept the side together with a fighting chanceless 46, and almost carried his bat being the 2nd last man out. The only other score above 6 was by Taki Manolelis with 14. We lost too many wickets to thoughtless cricket. We had about 90 mins to get amongst Mt Colah & that is what we did. Brett Hawkins was superb claiming 4/17 of 8 overs of guile and trickery. We applied plenty of pressure and all the bowlers responded. Colah still have batting to come, so this should be a beauty of a finish.
Blue 145 Vs Normanhurst/Warrawee intersting days play, not as good a position as we would like to be, we used 81 overs to get to 145 runs. We are all out, highest scores are Vishnu on 25 Rahul not out on 23 and Vikas on 20.
We were about to start bowling when the rain came and the umpire called it off. A lot to do in this match but we are more than capable of defending this total.
D1 0/3 Vs Berowra 239 after winning the toss in favourable conditions and sending Berowra in to bat, we managed to restrict a very good disciplined Berowra to 239. This week we held onto all our catches including a few screamers by Perry Waldron, Graham Auld and David Behelevanas. Our bowling was also satisfactory with 9 bowlers all chipping in with a wicket or two. Whilst runs on the board are important and chasing 239 can be viewed as challenging, we are well prepared and know that we will have our work cut out for us next week.
Cindrella Story
This year we thought it was going to happen but....we now have to wait until next season. Our longest running milestone saga is coming to a thrilling conclusion. D2 Captain Peter Westerberg is approaching (slowly) his career batting milestone of 100 career runs. What makes this fascinating is whether he gets there before his 100th innings. At the close of this season Peter has now scored 92 runs in 92 innings. The main interest next season will be to see what comes first the century of innings or the century run milestone.
Bondi rescue
Brief background. Jas Singh, Nathan Fathers (C1) and Jacques Visser (C2) had a big night out on New Year eve. The end came when Jas found himself on Bondi Rescue being one of the wasted revellers who managed to star on the show being taken away by the paramedics. As it turns out his drink was spiked. Anyway, Jas remembers waking up at about 11.00 am with tubes coming out of him. He managed to get himself home and there was Nathan and Jacques sleeping very comfortably. We are assured though that they made sure he was OK before taking up residence in Jas place.
Player of the Year
