Seniors Results
A1 Vs St Ives – match abandoned due to a wet wicket

A2 7/140 lost to St Ives 7/141 – after winning the toss and batting we got off to a fairly conservative start, with runs seemingly hard to come by. After the 20 over mark however we started to increase the run rate and managed to put 140 on the board with the loss of 7 wickets. We got off to a great start with the ball, getting rid of their two gun bats in quick time to have them at 5/44 at one stage after 20 overs. Unfortunately this one got away on us with a few of their guys making some valuable runs down the order which saw them pass our score with just 2 balls left in the game - our first loss of the season which now puts us in 3rd place. Suji Dissanayake and Dylan Brogan were fantastic with the ball taking 3/8 (8) and 2/15 (8) respectively.

Colts
Red Vs Hornsby – match abandoned due to wet wicket

Blue Normanhurst-Warrawee – Sunday game and scores will be updated shortly

B1 9/225 defeated ARL – 143 – a very important match (3rd Vs 4th), with only one point separating both teams. We won the toss and batted on a quick Thornleigh Oval. Andrew Joyce was promoted to open the innings in the one day matches and didn't disappoint. He belted 68 off only 65 balls including eight 4's and three 6's – read below for more info on this effort. Matt Scoular continued the stroke play with 38 off 31 balls while Rowan Keating hit 48 at a run a ball ensuring we passed 200. While these batsmen hit out, all the others played an important part in holding the innings together and helping to build a solid total difficult to chase.

We knew that ARL would come out swinging and that's exactly what they did - they were 1/72 in the 9th over. This changed with the introduction of Ryan (Rhino) Cherrie into the attack. He bowled the best spell of bowling from any of our bowlers this season, picking up ARL's hard hitting opener with a superb caught and bowled in his first over. With his pace and bounce he went on to change the game bowling four maidens straight, picking up vital wickets as Asquith slumped to 5/86. We continued to build up pressure in the field and as a result we consistently took wickets not allowing ARL to build any partnerships. ARL struggled to 143, the last 9 wickets falling for only 72 runs. Rhino finished with 4/27 while Scott Jobson (2/25) and Rowan Keating (2/47) provided good support as always. Rhino fittingly finished off the day with a direct hit run out. Backing up this great bowling performance was our fielding which was outstanding. We took six catches, including a ripper in the gully by Josh Kleinhans diving backwards, and also two run outs.

B2 76 lost to St Ives 4/77 – without a doubt our worst day of the season so far. Batting first, a succession of loose shots from the top order saw us crumble to be 4/5 after 5 overs, then 5/13 after 10. Only Duncan Moore (20) scored more than 14. Were it not for our longer than average batting lineup, it could have been much worse than it already was. With the ball, there was a glimmer of hope, Nick Starr (1/18) trapping their opening batsman LBW with the second ball of the innings, but in reality 76 was never going to be enough. The only other wicket takers were Tim Starr (2/20) and Lachlan McBrien (1/13). It will be a long few weeks as we wait to have another crack to redeem ourselves after this embarrassing performance.

C1 99 lost to Hornsby 3/106 – with Christmas looming and half the Team out with injuries even making the field was an achievement against 1st placed Hornsby. In the circumstances we did very well. Thanks to our ‘kids’ – Bray Stoneham 34* and Darshan Pandya with 23 who top scored and played their 1st game in Seniors. We bowled well and if a couple of crucial catches were taken we may well have stretched them but not to be. The big winners in the game were Juniors who helped out and did really well. A special thanks to Darshan Pandya, Bray Stoneham, Jake Hickman, Harrison Norrell, John Anderson and ofcourse the old stager, Greg Stoneham. Thanks also to Rob Aitken who came down from Colts to help out.

C2 122 lost to Kenthurst 6/132 – after losing the toss and being put in to bat by Kenthurst we posted 122 all out. We let ourselves down in the batting department with only Peter Lees (40) bothering the scorers. With such a small total to defend it was always going to be difficult. We managed to have them 6 down before they reached our total in the 31st over. A very disappointing result where we let ourselves down with some poor batting against an ordinary Kenthurst side.

C3
White 0/83 defeated Kenthurst 79 – a thumping victory over Kenthurst, completing the rout inside 38 overs (total). Kenthurst batted first, and were soon in trouble with Andrew Fiedler the most unlikely of destroyers taking 4/7 off 8 overs – that after the captain took a punt and opened the bowling himself. He was bettered by U16 debutant Peter Flook, who recorded the remarkable figures of 5/4 off 2.5 overs. Our turn to bat, and again we tried something new with juniors Riley Miedler (50 no) & Daniel Fiedler (19 no) opening the batting. They effortlessly saw us home with an 83-run opening partnership inside 15 overs.

Blue 3/120 defeated Mt Colah 119 – who needs to win the toss anyway! It is now 8 in a row that we (the Captain) have not won the toss. Got sent in to bowl & that we did. We went into this round wanting to be prepared after watching Mt Colah's batting stats. Arun Kumar & Ian Nichol did not give them a chance to settle, in the 5th over they were 3/10. Their 4th & 5th partnership were a bit frustrating, but eventually we broke them & proceeded to wrap them up. Arun finished with a fantastic 4/14 & Ian with a great 3/18. Chetan, Vishnuu & Claudio each bagging a wicket. Russell Smith & Chetan Bhatt made their opening bowlers tired & got to 51 before we lost our 1st wicket. Vikas & Claudio came in followed by Gary. Claudio blasted a quick 37, Vikas finished on 23. Great result to end the year on.

D1 7/181 defeated Normanhurst-Warrawee 179 – having been set a respectable target by the 2nd placed Normanhurst, we managed to chase it down and appeared to always be in control throughout the match. We lost a flurry of wickets towards the end but a good batting partnership between Manod Wickramasinghe 54 and Allan Raffel 45 supported by good bowling by Julian Raffel 3/29 and Lachlan Vile 3/29, ensured that we are now well placed in 3rd place and only a handful of points from the leaders.

D2 99 lost to Hornsby 4/100 – highlights: Sam Thariani 39, Niranjan Sundararaj 2-21, Luke Christensen 1-15 (his first wicket for the club).
In the circumstances nothing short of a miracle that we managed to turn out eleven on the field. Sadly that's about as far as our success went. Hard to believe this is the same team that humbled Kenthurst just one week ago. Hopefully we can bounce back in the new year.

11 out of 12
A huge weekend last Round with another weekend of records – this time at Team Level. We set a Club and Association record of winning 11 Senior games out of 12 matches. Included in this was an outright by our B2 side. The only team to miss out was C1 who went down by 1wicket in a thrilling finish. Our previous best was winning 10 games out of 10 Teams in 2002-03.

Debut to remember
What an effort from Peter Flook (U16) yet another Junior who helped out due to shortages over the Christmas break. Coming on to bowl at 2nd change he took the remarkable figures of 5/4 off 2.5 overs. This included 2 dropped catches. Four of his wickets were bowled, including the last of the innings when he smashed a stump in two. He duly took the stump remains home as a trophy for a memorable performance.

Anatomy of a career best bowling performance
Picture this – the Team (C3) is short, lot’s of Juniors who have bowling limitations after a morning’s play and not a lot of bowling options. If you are Captain then what do you do. You bowl yourself after only bowling only 71 overs in the previous 23 years!

The pre-match warm-up
In the words of the Captain (Andrew Fiedler) himself:
“After struggling all week with getting a team, and knowing that we'd have our bowling stocks down with some of our key junior bowlers not having many overs left to use after their morning matches, I decided at 11am this morning to open the bowling with myself. At 11:01am, I proceeded to the nets, lengthened, then shortened my run-up (8 steps was plenty), and proceeded to fling balls down to an empty net. The stump may have been hit once in 12 mins. By then I thought, let’s not waste all the good ones or injure myself now. That warm-up (after not having opened the bowling since school 28 years ago), would have to do.”

The result
After an inspired spell of bowling supported by some amazing fielding (including a catch by the 6’ 5” frame of Brett Hawkins who intercepted a ball destined for 6 runs on the boundary) ‘The man’ did it – career best figures of 8 overs, 4 maidens, 4 wickets for 7 runs! This was also a 38-year career best bowling performance beating a previous best of 3/48 at Rofe Park in 1983!

This performance has shown once and for all the lack of total respect for this talented batsmen’s bowling has probably been wrong for 38 years. If only we could turn the clock back and start the bowling career again.

The conclusion
Being the great Team man he is the biggest thrill Andrew got was being ‘one-upped’ by one of our Juniors (Peter Flook) making his Seniors debut and being called in on Friday night taking 5/2 and making sure we got a big win. The big test though will be to see if Andrew can walk on Sunday / Monday after this marathon spell.

More fast scoring records
This is turning out to be a big season with record scoring with another big achievement. Andrew Joyce (B1) set a new record in B1 Grade in scoring 25 off an over. The scoring sequence was:
• No ball, 6, 4, Dot, 2, 6, 6
• The highest number of runs scored in an over for B1
• It only ranks behind the 34 by Matt Scoular (Colts 2008) and 26 by John Steel (C1 2009).

Also of note is that the bowler had bowled two overs for one run before this over.

Well done Andrew.

Commitment
In the past we have had a number of players who have shown great commitment to turn up on weekend – weddings being re-scheduled, large amounts of travel and so on. The latest effort is by Rowan Keating (B1). Straight after Rowan plays his B1 game on Saturday he races off to the airport and flies out to Greece. No wonder he is leading the Club Player of the Year awards. Well done mate.
