Seniors Results
A1 203 defeated Kenthurst 197 – a fantastic result that in previous years would have seen a different result against 2nd placed Kenthurst. Our attack this year is the best in A1 with strike power all the way down which is why we are in this comp big time. Best bowlers for us were Scott Henderson (again) with 3 wickets with very good backup from James Makin and Matt Spalding both with 2 wickets.

A2 9/299 defeated Kenthurst 114 and 0/61 – match report to follow but another huge result against the competition leaders to give us a share of 1st place. The 1st innings bowling was the most penetrating with Michael Quieros 3/30 and Darren Morrow 2/17 off 13 overs. We are now on a roll.

Colts Red 6/179 defeated Berowra 148 – a sensational effort to convincingly beat the previously undefeated Berowra team. After finally winning a toss we had the opportunity to bat first for the first time this season. A solid opening partnership on the beautiful Berowra strip between Rob Aitken (33) and Matt Bennetts (28) set the scene for the innings and permitted Carl Madsen (31), Pat Bertoldo (26no) and Sam Croft (19) to put on quick runs. At 6/179 after the 40 overs a competitive total had been set. Berowra looked solid early on before Adam Hutchings (5/24) ensured victory for the team by removing most of the top half of the batting order. Sets things up nicely for the remainder of the season.

Colts Blue 131defeated Hornsby 96 – playing at a typically unpredictable Turramurra oval we won the toss and batted first. After a solid start we lost too many quick middle order wickets to be 5/75 at drinks. Thanks to a controlled innings of 23* by Sam Klienhans and a quickfire 28 (off 13) from Rowan Keating we pushed past 120 before the last 3 wickets fell cheaply and we were all out for 131 off only 30 overs which was disappointing as we fell very short of the 40 over allocation. However we still had a target to bowl at.

The bowling and fielding was sharp and taking steady wickets regularly Hornsby never came close to being in a winning position. Peter Yeates (4/22) and Rowan Keating (3/22) were the pick of the bowlers but all the bowlers and the fielding was top quality considering there were 3 fill in players helping out. A good win for the team.

B1 5/230 defeated Kenthurst 226 – another comfortable win, our fourth in a row. We lost a couple of early wickets to be 3/49 before Tim Millington (66) and Scott Jobson (59 not out) combined for a hundred run partnership to take control of the game. Kenthurst's lack of bowling depth showed as Tim and Scott, and then later Rowan and Josh belted their attack to every corner of the ground. We cruised to victory with 5 wickets in hand and with more than over 20 overs left in the day. Looking to maintain this form throughout the one dayers..

B2 3/170 and 4/129 defeated outright Beecroft 132 & 159 – declaring overnight we put Beecroft back in and knocked them over for 159 on a hot and lightening fast Thornleigh Oval. Once again good discipline both bowling and fielding saw us set up the late afternoon run chase for outright points. Best with the ball were Geoff Starr 5 / 42, Tim Starr 2 / 27 and Mark Bennett 2 / 22 with Ben McNamara taking 3 catches. Again, Alex Connell produced a cracking 58 (to go with 104* first innings), well supported by Adam Walter 26, Andrew Percival 18 and Ben Nolan 12* got us across the line with approx 10 overs to spare. An outstanding win which sees us increase our lead at the top. We were already leading the Comp by 10 points and this will only be more after this result.

C1 9/277 lost to Kenthurst 9/278 – we probably got closer than we deserved in this game. Expecting to win comfortably, we were a bit below our standard for a lot of the game, backed up by rolling injuries that saw us field with 10 players for much of the game and down to 9 at times. At 4/215 we clicked with John Steel (4/60) leading the charge with some sustained bowling. The below par energy was backed up by a combination of poor catching and a lot of bad luck with the Kenthurst top order offering a lot of catches and near chances. It got down to the final over for the last player in to edge a ball just wide of his stumps to get the winning runs. A bit of a wakeup call against the last placed team but with the positive being the way we came back.

C2 405 defeated Mt Colah 164 & 8/198 – a detailed match report will follow but this is a match we probably butchered an opportunity for an outright win. Our 1st innings bowling performance got the 6 points with Nik Patel (4/38) and Russel Ingram 3/38 outstanding. In the 2nd innings we had them on the ropes but just missed the killer punch to put them away. Best bowlers in the 2nd innings were Jacques Visser 2/25, Mark Bell 2/34 and Nik Patel 2/24. Anyway a good result that consolidates a top 2 position.

C3
White 153 defeated Kissing Point 153 – chasing a moderate score, we were off to an excellent start with openers Brendan Harkin (39) & Kramer Richards (29) putting on 77 for the opening wicket. At 1/99 we were cruising, but brought Kissing Point back into contention losing 3/1, due to some pretty shoddy batting. However Taki Manolelis (38) & Andrew Miedler (23 no) consolidated and got us home with plenty of time & batting to spare. A god win that consolidates our place as competition leader.

Blue 8/282 defeated Kenthurst 157 – well who needs to win the toss when a bunch of guys can come together and win games. We had a great day out playing against Kenthurst who are a fantastic bunch of guys. Jono van Blerk not out on 48. We went in to bowl & usually we watch Rahul Saberherwal try hard to take wickets, but today was different, he took wickets effortlessly & finished with a fantastic 5/28. Kenthurst were eventually bowled out for 157.

D1 2/118 defeated on 1st innings ARL 91 – another outstanding win by the fellows who in the end managed to chase down the runs for an outright with a single ball to spare. Notable prformances with the bat by Allan Raffel 77 and Laghlan Vile 75no, supported by some good line and length bowling with Graham Auld achieving 3/30 and Manod Wickramasinghe 3/45.
This is the sort of preparation we needed for our next two upcoming games against the 1st and 2nd placed sides. This win leaves us comfortably in 3rd closing in on 1st and 2nd. The most pleasing aspect of this game, albeit being without some key players, is that the good performances are coming from different players every week, who either bat well when required or take a vital catch at the right time, which in turn brings about the positive result.

D2 210 defeated Kenthurst 160 – a detailed match report will follow but this is our biggest win of the season against the Team coming equal first. Best bowlers were Niranjan Sundararaj & Ryan Schuten shared the honours, both taking 3-24. Stay tuned.

The thinking man’s cricketer
As a genius, star U16 player Riley Miedler makes a good cricketer. Playing with an umpires counter while waiting to bat...."Hey check this thing out – it only goes up to 6!".One thing, he is right. Well done Riley but keep the runs and wickets coming.

Knockout
How about Ryan Schouten in D2. After playing U15’s in the morning Ryan had a head clash taking a catch in the morning, knocking himself out – he can’t remember much of the incident. After laying down recovering most of the morning he came out and played his first Seniors game and took 3/24 to play a big part in a huge win against the competition leaders. As they say in the classics ‘beware the injured player’.

Family affair
Last season, the Creais’ set the standard with 4 family members on the field in the one game as players – no records on this one but it is up there. On the weekend, our C1 side also had 4 family members playing – Daniel, Ross, John Anderson to start off with. After a series of rolling injuries we were down to 10 (again) with Denise coming to the rescue and fielding as the game was getting down to a close finish. This was Denise’s first time on the field since her retirement from Test cricket in 1991.

The Club
We reckon our A1 side is the ‘sleeper’ to take out the Comp this season. Talent aside, one of the reason’s is that the boys have a huge incentive to perform. They have developed their own Membership cards (thanks Di) – ‘My Team. My Culture. My Brotherhood’. At the end of each game they have a draw and the winner gets free drinks. What more incentive can anyone get to even turn up.
