Seniors Results
A1 147 & 0/26 defeated on 1st innings Berowra 66 (overnight score) after taking a first innings lead of 80-odd last week, we stretched that to 230 before declaring 9 down. Gav Taylor scored 44, supported by Nick Bennett, Alex Robertson James Makin scoring 20-odd each. Berowra were a little more stubborn in their second innings, and a few early wickets and quick runs kept things interesting for both sides. Then a tight spell by Matt Spalding and Smokey Dawson killed Berowras chances of winning but they were able to survive until stumps 4 wickets down. A tough match against Kenthurst next week.
A2 127 & 5/135 tied with ARL127 we were able to pick up a few quick wickets early this afternoon to leave them 9/102, with them needing 128 to win and us just the one wicket. Out comes their number 11 swinging the bat, and was able to slog away 17 runs before being trapped in front by Matt Jobson at the scores level. An amazing outcome, but felt we had a good chance to wrap the game up and was very frustrating to last place ARL get away with another one, similar to round 1. They put us into bat with no real chance of an outright for any side. Michael McGregor top scored with 37, continuing his good form, and Darren Morrow was the pick of the bowlers today with 4/42. Nonetheless we are still undefeated, and depending on results this weekend are hopefully still in 2nd place.
Colts Red Vs Normanhurst-Warrawee no game this weekend Schoolies.
Colts Blue Vs Kissing Point no game this weekend Schoolies.
B1 9/261 defeated Berowra 143 & 3/81 commencing at 4/72 we started the day well passing Berowra's total without losing a wicket. Scott Jobson played a controlled innings of 25, holding the innings together well. Rowan Keating, backing up from his 4 wicket haul last week, hit out with a great knock of 73. Matt Scoular coming in as a Week 2 player did some damage finishing 63 not out before we closed the innings at 9/261 dec. In the field we took an early wicket, but Berowra put up a good fight finishing with 3/81 before we called it a day. A great win consolidating our position in the top 4.
B2 5/244 defeated Berowra 241 another powerful display with the bat from the boys, with a great chase being built on some solid partnerships. Resuming today at 1/39, we took the score along to 72, before we lost our first wicket, that of Geoff Starr for 40. Another couple of wickets fell relatively quickly and left the game in the balance with us at 4/115. However, a strong partnership of 63 between Nick Starr (70) and Adam Walter (62*) saw us to 178 before Nick was dismissed shortly before tea. Adam was then joined by James McBrien (24*), and their unbeaten stand of 66 saw us home in the 59th over. A huge thanks to Isaac Malamel, David Creais and Chris Creais who have helped us out over the last couple of weeks, it is much appreciated.
C1 7/198 defeated Castle Hill 193 a solid hit out after 2 losses against Teams we should have beaten. This win was actually more comfortable than the scores indicate. After a 76 run 2nd wicket partnership between Kishore Rampersad (47) and Ross A (42), we put consistent partnerships together led by Dinesh de Silva 30, and Eric Junkkari with 25. With a strong middle order the key is to get a good platform and this was achieved this match. After slipping out of the top 4 for the 1st time last match the win puts us back in the running.
C2 6/203 defeated Kissing Point 186 and 5/140 after bowling Kissing Point out for 186 last week we continued our innings from 1/66. Good contributions by all the batsmen had us reach their score in the 35th over. Best for us were Russell Ingram 41, Narendra Kulkarni 38, Chris Williamson 35, Ashane De Suilva 26, Peter Heidegger 25. We decided to try for the outright, but they managed to reach 5/140 before we called it a day.
C3
White 2/269 dec defeated outright innings St Ives 116 & 106 a comfortable outright win for C3 White vs an undermanned St Ives. Resuming on day 2 on 2/198 (after dismissing St Ives for 116), we batted for 10 overs to declare at 2/269. Brendan Harkin (53 no) & Riley Miedler (44 no) put the opposition to the sword to give us a big lead with plenty of overs remaining in the day. Needing only 7 wickets to force an outright, Brett Hawkins was in top form taking 3/35. Other wicket takers were Ashane De Silva (2/17), Riley Miedler & Luke Herzog (both 1/15), as we bowled St Ives out for 106 in the 28th over. The win will likely put us into top spot..
Blue 5/102 defeated Berowra 151 Day 2 we needed 53 to secure the 1st innings, and 5 batsmen left and we felt that we could do it and just managed 10/159. Berowra went back in to bat and the fun began;Arun and Rahul opened the bowling followed by Vikas, Ian & Vishnuu. Rahul finished with 6/30, which included Four in a row or a Double Hat-Trick, followed by Arun, Vikas and Ian each taking a wicket. We managed to wrap them up for 127.
We went in to bat and ran out of time we finished with 4/78. Looking forward to meeting Berowra again later in the comp.
D1 264 defeated St Ives238 we turned up this week expecting an easy game, having the opposition 3 for 17 last week chasing 264. But a really good partnership got them close at 200 for 4. A good over from Perry Waldron broke the partnership and the boys kept working hard in the field, the rest is history. Notable performances were from Peter Dick (27) and Mathew Dick (40) for a good steady partnership when we needed it the most. Additionally Lachlan Vile made 43 and Perry Waldron made 35 not out. With the ball, Graham Auld 2-34 and David Behelevanas 2-11 were the pick of the bowlers. This win consolidates our position in the top 4. This team continues to improve weekly and we look forward to continue the progress.
D2 190 lost to Kissing Point 7/208 this was always going to be a tough one, and so it proved, as we confronted the strength of Kissing Point's batting in 39 degree heat. We put up a great fight but, in the end, our total of 190 proved just too little to defend. Nikhil Suresh was the best of our bowlers, taking 4 - 35, including all the big wickets; Ankit Grover bowled superbly all afternoon, unlucky to take just 2 - 37; Joshua Murray-Howard claimed 1 - 50, while Niranjan Sundararaj, though wicketless, provided invaluable support and shone in the slips where he took two great catches; Sam Shearer also taking another fine catch in the deep. Altogether a fine team effort in the toughest conditions sees us beaten but unbowed. Next week we face competition leaders Kenthurst: time for us to dig deep, as I know we will.
History repeating itself
Some strange things happen when our A2 side plays against ARL in terms of numbers. Some amazing stats follow from Matt Jobson.
In the 2007/08 Semi Final against ARL we managed to bowl them out for 57 for 21.3 overs, and then again in their second dig for 57 in 21.3 overs, the exact same score and exact same number of deliveries. Pretty rare you'd say.
Now this match, after being dismissed for 127 off 43.4 overs last week, we bowled ARL all out for 127 off 43.4 overs today. Surely not. Add to that, the last wicket today was an lbw by Matt Jobson, which was the exact same way the last wicket fell in ARL's 2nd innings back in 2007/08!
Adam Walter the sequel
A couple of Updates ago we reported that Adam Walter (B2) got a golden duck in our massive score of 430. In this match Adam said No matter what, I am going to block the first ball. True to his word, he got in behind the half-tracked and knocked it back down the pitch. After that, however, he belted the ball to all parts to score an unbeaten 62, including one coming perilously close to killing Lachlan McBrien who was umpiring at the bowlers end.
The Cinderella Chronicles
Last round there was a great story about Josh Kleinhans (B1) who left his shoes behind and after a Cinderella type search for a pair that fitted went out and hammered 60 odd runs.
Fast forward to this game. Midnight had come and gone since the last match and reality strikes. After his heroics and a match winning knock last round, Josh unfortunately remembered his cricket shoes this week. This proved costly as he was bowled for a golden duck.
Man-eating crabs
Got to hand it to Jas Singh (C1 opening bowler). For those who dont know, Jas has a phobia about anything that moves magpies being noteworthy. Anyway, Eric Junkkari was telling a story about a TV show he saw that that observed that crab fisherman had one of the highest death rates of any occupation. Jas showed why he is a fast bowler and jumped straight to the real issue his comment how big were the crabs.
A good head for radio
Last week we reported that Andrew Watt (C1) was selected as one of a 20 people to be the 12th man for the All Stars T/20 game against Australia last weekend. Everything went well until a trial media interview. That was the end of that. As they say in the classics a great head for radio.
