Seniors Results
A1 Vs Kissing Point results to come.
A2 7/299 defeated Wahroonga 184 and 5/89 we managed to pass their score only 3 wickets down, and upped the ante to push ourselves to around 115 ahead. Michael McGregor and James Fiedler put on 120 and batted very sensibly with scores of 78 and 63 respectively. Great support from our debutant Michael Quieros who added 48 in no time, along with some handy runs down the order. This gave us 23 overs to have a crack, Jobbo ended up with 2 wickets along with Rowee Dixit - unfortunately not getting the outright points but improving our quotient all the same. A top effort, still undefeated so far this season.
Colts Red 236 defeated WPHC Blue 129 after being 3/19 the reds posted an impressive score with Tom Blissenden top scoring with 64. In the bowling, Tim Scoular struck early for the Red team and took his wicket tally for the match to an impressive 5 for just 32. The game opened up before Adam Hutchings 25 and Isaac Malamel 18 took the total to a point where both teams decided that getting out of the heat was the best decision to make with an outright result for either side looking improbable.
B1 181 defeated Kissing Point 136 resuming at 5/96 against the team coming 2nd this a great effort from the boys. Our day started badly losing Matt Scoular for 40 in the 3rd over of the day. Enter Josh "Cinderella" Kleinhans and Andrew "Pat" Graham. These guys combined for a vital 30 run partnership to get us within 7 runs of victory. Both managed to be dismissed with 7 runs needed to poor shots. Andrew Joyce pulled the team over the line with a 6 to pass KP's score. He continued some entertaining stroke-play and ended up on 37 runs as the innings closed with us on 181. In the heat and with around 50 overs left in the game we called it a day.
B2 430 defeated outright Castle Hill 73 & 113 a massive win by an innings and 244 one of our biggest wins which will give us a bit of breathing space on top of the table. Castle Hill (with only 10 players) was never in the hunt, being reduced to 4/16 from 9 overs in the first innings before being bowled out for 73 in just 22.3 overs. Wickets were fairly evenly shared, with Geoff Richards (3/10), Tim Starr (3/17), Mark Bennett (2/27) and Ben McNamara (1/21) the only bowlers required, with 6 of the 9 wickets to fall being bowled.
Come the second innings, and there was little more resistance from the batsmen, as they were again rolled in 22.4 overs for 113, with some good catches By James McBrien and Tim Starr, coupled with brilliant bowling from Lachlan McBrien (4/13), Mark Bennett (2/13), Geoff Richards, Duncan Moore and Ben McNamara (1 each) saw the game over well before 5pm, in what is likely to be one of the most dominant performances of the season.
C1 142 lost to Kissing Point 188 starting the day with 5 wickets in hand to 107 runs on a small fast ground was well within our range but we fell short in a game we should have won. In the batting, Wayne Seabrook gave a Masterclass of 32 before reaching his retirement score and there were a few other cameos with Nathan Fathers 32 and a couple of 20s but just too many soft dismissals. The season starts again next week when we can perform to the level that we know we can in the batting stakes.
C2 6/123 defeated Castle Hill 121 a one day game following last weeks wash out. Lost the toss and bowled first. After twenty overs CH were 2/71, enter Fergus Waterson 3/17 and Narendra Kulkarni 2/21 who turned the innings around for us, supported by great fielding from all but especially Mark Bell with two great catches and a run-out. Our turn to bat and a slow start and the loss of 4 wickets inside the first twenty overs had us behind on the run chase. Up steps Steve Baker (29) who guided the innings to a successful end with support from Chris Williamson (20), Nikunj Patel (18) and Fergus Waterson(16*). A great team effort today that will put us into the top 4.
C3
White 8/192 drew with Mt Colah 8/303 we scraped through with a draw today against top of the table Mt Colah who resumed at 7/255 today & took their score to 8 dec 303 via a quick 6-over slog-a-thon. Best bowler was Taki Manolelis with 3/56. We were a player short today, so needing 304 off 66 overs with 9 wickets in hand was always going to be tough. We were off to a great start with Pratah Sinnetamby (26), Gareth Linaker (54) & Dave Creais (34) all batting well, seeing us through to Tea at 1/110. Our plan was to have wickets in hand for a strong push at the target in the final 20-overs, however that didn't eventuate. We lost regular wickets through the afternoon session, and found ourselves struggling to hang on. In the end, Riley Miedler & Brett Hawkins held off the opposition and we finished at 8/192.
Blue defeated Kissing Point 127 playing a team that really made it hard to enjoy the game we reached the required score to win the game and just to give them some more reasons to complain, we commenced with some batting
practice, Claudio finished on 37 runs, Vishnu retired on 51, Gary Robinson end not out with a well earned 30 and as quick as Arun arrived, he hit a quick 28 runs before being caught.
D1 6/248 defeated Kissing Point 197 our team is starting to find form, and most pleasing is that the good performances have come from different players across the entire team. The players are getting better every week and the depth that we are beginning to develop will stand us in good stead for the remainder of the season. All honours for this game go to Graham Auld for a memorable bowling performance where he took 4 wickets when we needed them the most, supported by good batting performances that included Faisals 84 and Allan Raffels 57.
D2 8/237 lost to Normanhurst-Warrawee 9/238 our injury-depleted bowling attack had to dig deep against some strong batting from Normanhurst in the final day of this match. A great, sustained effort from Niranjan Sundararaj (3-46), Ankit Grover (2-45), Joshua Murray-Howard (1-31) and Nikhil Suresh (1-54) kept us fighting right down to the wire in a truly thrilling finish. Sam Thariani put in another great day behind the stumps, unlucky not to be credited with a third caught-behind, while our fielders in the deep performed prodigies.
Cinderella's Day at the Cricket
After turning up to Howson oval this week without his cricket shoes, Josh Kleinhans (B1) decided to make a dash home to retrieve his shoes. He left the ground at 12:40pm and after 2 minutes of driving decided , thankfully, to return back to the ground as he was not going to make it there and back in time to bat, as he was not out from last week.
During his short journey the Captain Matt Thorndyke discovered what Josh had done and stated "if he doesnt come back in time hes not playing ever again." After returning to the ground, where he received a round of applause from the boys for common sense, he trialled several of the boys shoes and he put on the Captains and decided to use them.
The shoes which must be magical, allowed Josh to finally score some runs and he ended up with 34, a crucial innings. After returning to the sheds he discovered that he had been renamed Cinderella in the scorebook a name he will surely have to endure for the rest of the season.
When things go against you....
Spare a thought (just a small one) for Castle Hill B2 playing our imposing unit. After we score a near record 430 last week they turn up to Greenway Park that was now top dressed. In the words of Adam Walter, our 430 was like chasing 600. Not hard to understand that we ended up winning outright before 5.00 pm on day 2.
The Bruise Brother or a Pom never learns
After infamously displaying his bruises last season to the boys and some people walking their dogs at Greenway, Paul Tilley (B1) was at it again showing his bruises from last week to the boys. Hopefully none of the juniors still at Howson were watching as PT took off his shirt and proudly showed everyone his bruises and talked everyone through how he got them batting last week. Maybe someone should tell Paul that the thing he has in his hand while batting is a bat that is meant for hitting the ball.
