Seniors Results
A1 Grade Vs Kissing Point – results to come.
A2 2/80 Vs Wahroonga 184 – another big game with 2 (us) Vs 4 in the Comp. After losing the toss and being put into field we did well to restrict Wahroonga to 184 on a fast Thornleigh Oval. Bowling honours went to Rohan Dixit who continues his great form with 4/40 off 14, supported well by Darren Morrow with 2 wickets. After clocking up 20 runs in the first two overs we got off to a great start. James Fiedler and Michael McGregor remain at the crease with just 106 more to get - definitely achievable on this fast outfield.
Colts Red 4/150 defeated WPHC Blue 129 – day 1 of the WPHC Colts 'derby' was played in good spirits and fortunes swung a few times along the way. Parneet Bhatia, Isaac Malamel and Tom Blissenden took two wickets each to put the Red team in control but an aggressive 43 from Taylor Paton took the Blue team's total to 129 on a pitch that wasn't totally predictable. The Blue’s bowling attack, lead by Tim Scoular who's first 8 over spell returned 3/6, took the initiative early. Tom Blissenden, however, backed up his bowling performance with an excellent 62no and along with Sam Croft 27no and Rob Aitken 26 managed to pass the first innings target.
B1 5/96 Vs Kissing Point 132 – we won the toss and bowled in overcast conditions in a big match with 4 (us) Vs number 2. The move paid off as we soon had Kissing Point 6 down for just 32 runs through some great bowling from Rowan Keating and Andrew Joyce (AJ). But the pressure was released somewhat as we allowed Kissing Point to reach 132 before finally closing the innings. AJ was the star taking 5/39 with great assistance from Keats 3/26. Our chase started badly as we lost 2 quick wickets to leave us 2/4 and continued to lose wickets through some absolutely pathetic stroke play but Matt Scoular has settled the innings and still remains unbeaten on 40. We are 5/96 at the close and are looking forward to reaching the target of 137 with just 41 runs needed. This is really our game to lose at this stage and some sound disciplined batting with get us over the line and consolidate our place in the top 4.
B2 430 Vs Castle Hill – a fantastic day from our blokes, racking up a mammoth first innings score of 430 at Greenway. Good contributions from all batsmen, with Duncan Moore (76*), Tim Starr (56), James and Lachlan McBrien (both 47), Mark Bennett (39), Geoff Starr (36) and Nick Starr (27) laying the platform for what should be a good chance for plenty of points next week. Special mention must also go to Ben McNamara who, batting at 11, joined in the party by hitting a 6 of his own. Now to finish this one off. More about this score later in the update.
C1 5/88 Vs Kissing Point 188– a funny sort of game played on the small and fast Mimosa Oval. We bowled well with John Steel (3/47) and Craig Hutchinson 3/38(leading the way). John Mitchell with his 2/20 also took his 50th wicket for the Club. Given that this is a 300 plus run chase ground we go ourselves into a bit of trouble batting out the 28 overs left in the day. We are a few players down this match but most players got themselves out to the wrong shot. With Nathan Fathers still there on 33 and with good batting to come including Dinesh de Silva being available day 2 this is still well within our range.
C2 Vs Castle Hill – Sunday round – results to come.
C3
White Vs Mt Colah 7/255 – against top-of-the-table Mt Colah, we sent them in on a fairly heavy ground, but it appeared our legs were the ones getting heavy throughout the day. With many of our juniors backing up from fielding in the morning, we were unable to take a stream of regular wickets. Best of the bowlers was Taki Manolelis (2/34). Riley Miedler (2), Brandon Jack (on senior debut), Brett Hawkins & Andrew F (one each) were the other wicket takers, though all found the going pretty hard on an unforgiving (narrow) Foxglove track. We created plenty of chances, but we spilled far too many of them. Heads down for a big run chase next week.
Blue 2/51 Vs Kissing Point 127 – a great day to sit & watch the team play cricket today & it was great watching a bunch of guys come together as a team & take control. We won the toss & elected to back ourselves by bowling. It started with some wayward bowling & then Rahul decided he did not want to spend all day in the field & finished today on 3/16, Arun Kumar had the ball swinging & the opposition guessing while he finished on 3/36. Vikas Manchanda was not going to be left out & broke a partnership that was starting to gain some momentum & ended his day on 3/18. Claudio van Blerk was back & rejuvenated after HSC & his bowling figures were 2/19, which included an awesome caught & bowled & while helping out behind the stumps assisted with a great stumping. We went in to bat with 22 overs to the end of the day & left stumps at 2/51 with both Chetan Bhatt & Claudio still at stumps. Looking forward to next week.
D1 0/51 Vs Kissing Point 198 – a standout performances from Grahame Auld 4/27 and Roger Friend 3/43. A solid recovery where at one stage they were 137 for 2 but our bowlers stuck to their tasks and never gave up to dismiss them for 198. Outstanding performances by Grahame Auld and Roger Friend helped us contain them to a moderately low score, given that the boundaries at Northolm Grammar insisted on by the Kissing Point captain make it the smallest ground that we have played on all year. A win here will put us comfortably in the top 4 so a big match for us.
D2 8/237 Vs Normanhurst-Warrawee – another fine batting performance from our upper and middle order saw us reach 5/200 and able to declare in a strong position. Ankit Grover led the way with a superb 65 compiled over three and a half hours, while Niranjan Sundararaj, who has bowled so well in recent weeks, showed us today just how well he can bat with a swift and fluent 50. These two were well supported by Ben Pilipowski (21) and Simon Bodley (21), the latter showing great form in a gritty middle order innings. Next week our bowling attack, strengthened by the return of Shankar Ravi, will match it with a Normanhurst side that have some depth in their batting. Expect another day of vintage cricket.
Tonked
The C1 game last week at Foxglove had some amazing achievements in big hitting. Here goes:
Most runs of an over by a WPHC Player
John Steel went ballistic Vs Berowra at Foxglove North last Sunday. He took 42 runs off 2 overs from their slow bowler including 26 in an over. This is a record by a WPHC player playing C1 and the 3rd highest ever. The only scores beating this effort are:
• 34 by Matt Scoular (Colts) @ Storey Park 27/1/2008
• 30 by Ian Paterson and Roger Friend in D1 – Vs Galston Glenorie @ Arcadia 17/1/2004.
3 big overs
In the same game this was reduced to a 1-dayer and 377 runs were scored by both Teams – nothing special here. However:
• 21 runs came off an over by Jaskaran Singh
• 42 runs came off 2 overs from a Berowra bowler.
This is 17% of the entire match runs came off 3 overs out of the 80 that were bowled – amazing.
Record score
How about our B2 side who hit 430 in their game at Greenway. A few facts about this score:
• This is the 4th biggest score recorded by a WPHC side, beaten only by:
o 494 by B1 Vs Cowan in 1965/66
o 436 by A1 Vs St Ives 1951/52
o 431 by A1 Vs Berowra 1997/98
• This is a record score by a WPHC B2 side
• No records are kept on this one but the highest score was 76* – so no ton in this massive score.
Missed out
Just on the record B2 score, spare a thought for Adam Walter (A1 opening bowler) playing with a batting dispensation in B2 while he recovers from injury. Adam was the only person not to reach double figures after spending 53 overs sitting and watching the ball fly everywhere, managed to get himself out for a golden duck!
