Seniors Results
A1 Grade Vs St Ives 4/91 a solid start before rain intervened. After having Hornsby 3/15 they went the slog and got the runs in 17 overs. Good bowling by Scott Henderson 2/20 and one wicket each to Matt Spalding and Adam Walter has us in still a good position.
A2 Vs St Ives 9/121 after rocking up to the Glade both teams decided the pitch was in no condition to play on, so we played at Headen Park instead. They won the toss and batted, started well at 0/40 but we pulled them back to 9/121 before the days-end. Darren Morrow who hadn't bowled a ball since his winning grand final wicket last season came in with 6/22 off 14 and bowled brilliantly. Tim Rae snuck in with 2 wickets at the end. Real good result, these guys consider themselves a batting side and I'm sure we can knock off the runs next week once we get the 10th wicket!
Colts Red Vs Hornsby Colts start up again on the 24th October after the HSC
Colts Blue Vs Normanhurst-Warrawee Colts start up again on the 24th October after the HSC
B1 Vs Normanhurst-Warrawee no play possible at Normanhurst Oval. To be a 1-dayer next weekend.
B2 5/153 defeated on first innings Mt Colah 100 a good day for the boys. Bowling first, Mt Colah never looked comfortable or well set as we bowled them out for 100, with Tim Starr (5/24) and Mark Bennett (2/21) doing most of the damage. In reply, a blistering opening partnership of 73 from 11 overs between Nick Starr (12) and Alex Connell (63) meant the result was never in doubt. Alex also passed the 2000 career run mark during his innings. A solid 35 from Tim Scoular helped us to 5/153 at the close of play with still plenty of batting to come, with Ben Nolan being unluckily bowled on the last ball of the day.
C1 119 Vs Normanhurst-Warrawee 4/11 a fascinating days play on a very slow and wet Headen Park where the runs could be at least doubled. Batting against a disciplined attack that lacked pace it was difficult to force the ball. It was even tougher with a freshly laid 5 metre square of new turf layed either side of the wicket. Daniel Anderson (DA) held the innings together with a chanceless 28 in just on 150 minutes and was the 8th wicket to fall. Gamini (29) and Craig Hutchinson (16*) put on an invaluable 45 for the 9th wicket with anything over 100 defendable. Our turn to bowl with 9 overs remaining. After having them 3/0 with superb bowling by Andrew Watt 2/5 (4 overs) and John Steel we showed how tough the batting was. The final wicket was a brilliant opportuntist piece by DA who threw down the stumps from point for a batsman out of his crease after an unsuccessful appeal. 131 runs, 14 wickets in 75 overs with good batsmen says it all. Given equal conditions next week this should be a good score.
C2 7/267 Vs Hornsby a powerful batting effort from this talented side. Narendra Kulrarni set the scene with a very good 42 then enter Chris Milosevic (down from Colts) with 92 (his previous highest score was 97) and Tim Anderson with 34. Another highlight was a 7th wicket partnership of 105 between Chris and Nikunj Patel (28*). This should be enough to get us back into teh winners list.
C3 148 defeated on 1st innings Normanhurst-Warrawee 57 welcome back to form with a bang. A comprehensive result. Fabulous bowling with 2 wickets a piece to Riley Meidler, Chris Creais, Sid Sethi & Luke Herzog. A decent win on 1st innings but not as much of a lead as we'd hoped for to ensure a chance at an outright.
D1
Red 6/87 Vs WPHC Blue on a slow Northholm field we got off to a reasonable start with Marco Delgado top scoring with 29 the boys suffered a middle order collapse before Peter Dick and Chris Grima steadied the ship. Looking forward to next week and believe this will be a close contest against WPHCC Blue, that shows good signs with a consistent bowling attack. Ian Nichol was the pick of a good bowling attack with 3/14. The real star was Jonathan van Blerk with 3 catches behind the wicket. Congratulations also to both teams on the way they played the game always tough playing against our own Club but both Teams have done this well.
D2 192 Vs Castle Hill 3/23 after winning the toss and batting we are in a solid position with Sahil Talpade scoring his first ton with 104 (our 342nd century). Our turn to bowl and Ankit Grover bowled very well with 3/10 to set us well for our first win.
Simon Smyth the wedding
Wedding bells
Got to hand it to Simon (A1 and former Seniors Director) and his lovely partner who have scheduled their wedding next Friday. The reason is to make sure the A1 boys are able to turn up and play the next day. Great Club spirit but we are all looking forward to seeing how A1 backup on Saturday after the night before.
The publicity
After Brett Whites (Melbourne Storm player) decision to delay his wedding, 2MMM opened the lines for good stories about weddings. One of our players (wont mention your name Tim) phoned the radio station to share this wonderful scheduling.
Not a leg to stand on
Got to hand it to Simon who had his Bucks night last Saturday night. Somehow, Simon managed to break his foot which will put him out of action for 9/12 weeks. Problem is that no one remembers how it happened other than hazy memories about Matt Spaldings size 15 feet stumbling over Simon sometime between 10.30 am on Sunday and 3.30 am on Monday must have been some party.
The run chase
Peter Westerberg (D2 Captain) is one of our most popular players and is involved in one of the Clubs great milestone achievements. He already has the record for the most number of consecutive game appearances he has not missed a game since his debut in 2002-03. But he is also approaching his 100 run milestone. Only 16 runs to go but the challenge is to get there before his 100th innings (now sitting on 79 innings) no pressure Peter.
The Sting
Steve Matosic (C3) was chatting to one of the Normo batters who had been batting for about 16 overs and had not hit a boundary at Greenway. The run of the tape went something like this:
Steve: "Hey mate, I'll give you five bucks if you hit a boundary next ball"
Normo batter: Very watchful, plays defensive.
Steve: " Hey mate, double or nothing, ten bucks"
Normo batter: begins to twitch but again plays defensively.
Steve: "Hey mate, I'll make it a slab if you hit one this ball".
Normo batter: More twitching, decides to have a swipe at the next ball.
Result bowled off stump.
