June 2009 Update
Winter is here and this marks the start of our season preparation. The following update brings you up to speed with all this information:
Cricket NSW Level 1 Accreditation
Cricket NSW is running a Level 1 Coaching Course in September. Over the last few years we have run a Level 1 programme at Edward Bennett Oval and now have 29 qualified Level 1 coaches. It is an excellent course and is highly recommended.
• When: Sunday 13th September 2009
• Where: Montview Oval, Hornsby. Our grounds section on the website has the location.
• Time: 9.00 am to 5.00 pm
• Cost: $Nil if you coach or are going tp coach a WPHC Team next season - otherwise the cost is $120 per person.
These courses have a maximum of 19 people per session (there is just the one) and we usually fill them out with WPHC folk alone in the past. The only condition we apply is that if you commit to go and don't turn up then we ask for the cost to be reimbursed which is only fair.
If you are interested then please get back to Ross Anderson (wisden@bigpond.com) your name and full contact details asap but by next Wednesday 13th June at the latest to guarantee a place.
Cricket Poetry competition
A National competition is being run inviting cricketers to submit a poem celebrating an aspect of life in and around the game and sport of cricket, in settings of backyard cricket, beach cricket, club cricket or social cricket
Cricket Poet Arthur Salway wrote the wonderful “Reflections”
I bowl to my reflection in the outside kitchen door;
Then, switching to a batsman’s role, I face myself once more.
Was ever bowler quite so subtle with his sleight of hand?
Or ever batter quite so quick to read & understand?
Such wealth of cricket expertise by subterfuge concealed
Deserts me from the moment that I step onto the field!
A prize of $2,000 is on offer and the entries need to be submitted by the end of August with the top 20 Finalists being announced on the 25th September
If you are interested then please get back to Ross Anderson (wisden@bigpond.com) so that I can provide you with the consent forms.

Association News
The Association is looking at introducing a number of new rules. A meeting with Club delegates was held in the first week of June and agreement was given to run with the following changes:
• A leg-side wide rule applying in 1-day games where there are official umpires
• Player ratings – giving greater flexibility to players to play 1 grade below their rating
• No changes to a player rating that was earned on previous season performances
• A new rule of ‘extreme heat’ situations
• Club Championship calculation is to be changed basically to make it more difficult for us to win the Championship – we have now won 6 straight. The new system favours smaller Clubs with successful teams in higher grades.
