Seniors
Weekend results from day 2 of Round 14 - the last Round of normal competition follow:
A1 131 and 6 dec / 138 defeated Kenthurst 127 and 8/64 what an amazing performance against 3rd placed Kenthurst to just miss an outright by 2 wickets that would have put us into the top 4. Resuming with Kenthurst 3/59 we got first innings points by 4 runs. Smokey Dawson and Peter Stott both took 3 wickets. In our 2nd innings we closed at 6/138 with Gav Taylor scoring 51 (his first A1 Grade 50). What an amazing 2nd innings to follow when we gave them 24 overs to get 142. At one stage they were 8/35 but just hung out to be 8/64 at the end. Simon Smyth completed his best season in A1 with a superb 6/31. The season is now over for the boys finishing just out of the 4 and with memories of washed out games and close losses.
A2 5/69 drew with Kenthurst 7 dec 153 for some reason the game was played as a 2-day game at the umpires direction after week one was washed out. Kenthurst, who have 1st place by a big margin batted on and gave us 27 overs to get the target. Ben Frawley bowled well yet again for his 4/29 from 9 overs. Our turn to bat and we finished at 5/69 but came in at 4th spot to play Kenthurst again in the Semi Final next weekend.
Colts Red 97 defeated Kissing Point 80 the plan was to make sure that we batted out the full 40 overs on the tricky Turramurra pitch and this was achieved perfectly with our last wicket falling at 97 on the last ball of the innings. Ben Lyttle provided the foundation of the innings with a determined 30. Kissing Point had already confirmed their position as first in the competition prior to today's play and much of their success has been based on the batting. However, on this occasion our excellent bowling had them dismissed in the 28th over upon them reaching 80. Isaac Malamel was a standout with 4/19 off 8 overs with Giyan Dharmadasa and Carl Madsen taking two apiece. Josh Noney and Hiran Nagahawatta claimed the remaining two. We are up against this same team in the semi final next week and this win should provide a great confidence boost.
Colts Blue 137 lost to Vs Berowra 7/145 after resuming at 8/99 the tail wagged with Tim Anderson scoring 42 and Peter Taylor 29. This got us up to a reasonable total to try and defend. Unfortunately although wickets fell regularly we just did not have enough runs on the board. On the day the equal top score for Berowra was 33 sundries which is something the guys will have to work on for what looks like a rematch against Berowra in the semis.
B1 5/141 defeated Kenthurst 135 the big game tha we had to win to make sure of a spot in the Semi Finals. Full details are not yet to hand but Dan Moye was our best with the bat scoring 48 with good support from Rohan Keating. In the bowling, Chris Thorndyke with 3/14 and Andrew Joyce 3/17 starred. More to follow on this important game.
B2 White 110 lost to St Ives 8/111 a bitter sweet game. After battling with a difficult (wet wicket) with a slow outfield and bad light last weekend, day 2 was the complete opposite with the ground also cut. We put on another 40 runs for the last 2 wickets to set some sort of target. Our bowlers did very well with a fantastic effort in pushing them all the way. Every bowler did very well with Craig Hutchinson again strangling the run rate with superb bowling. In the end we were short by about 20 runs. We have now finished at 3rd spot and provided we can get a good score then our bowlers can do the rest.
B2 Red Vs Bye the boys can pack up their kits and relax now with the season over.
C2 9/188 defeated St Ives 136 comfortable win for our guys against the top-placed side. Resuming on 0/16, Nick Starr (26) & Michael 'Kramer' Richards (36) put on 50 for the 1st wicket to set up the win. Geoff Starr belted a super-quick 42 before retiring. If you've ever seen someone batting 'angry' this was it. A few huge sixes later & the game was ours. Mullos played a good hand with 28 as well. Geoff Richards wasn't needed, hence we finished at 9-for with plenty of ammo up our sleeves. Assuming Normanhurst won, we'll finish 3rd.
C3 141 defeated outright Glenhaven 45 and 75 the significance of this win cant be downplayed with us 5th playing 2nd placed Glenhaven. We had to beat them outright to make the Semis and we did. On to the game. After posting 141against Glenhaven last week we bowled with great discipline to roll Glenhaven for 45. Outstanding bowling came from Jacques Visser, who returned figures of 6/25 off 13, and Chris Williamson with3/6 off 9 allowed us to wrap up the first innings win and put them back in again. With a lead of 96 we bowled them out for a second time for 75, with Nik Patel taking 3/2 off 4, Russel Ingram 2/10 off 5 and Mark Bell 2/16 off 3. With all the bowlers taking wickets and the majority of the batsmen striking form we look forward to playing the number 1 side in the Semis next week. A highlight of the game was Jacques Visser taking his 100th wicket for the club with his 4th wicket of the day.
This team has left it to the last minute to grab a spot in the knock out stage of the comp hopefully we will carry the momentum forward for 2 more games!! Watch this space
D1 9/225 defeated ARL 65 a powerful effort over 5th placed Berowra and a goods hit out before the Semis. Our target was always imposing and we finished the job well. Todays was one for the bowlers with Marco Delgado 4-12 (giving him 99 career wickets for the Club), Shankar Ravi 3-10 and Chris Grima 4 overs 4 maidens 2-0.A good, morale boosting win to finish our season in second place, and to prepare us for the semis.
D2 9/140 defeated Berowra 9/117 playing 1st placed Berowra this was the workout we were after before the Semi's. Details scores will follow.
Amazing results
It looks very much like we have set another Club record with, so far, 9 Teams in the Semi Finals out of our 11. This is an amazing result when you think about spredaing talent around 11 Teams so congratulations to everyone - those whomade it and to A1 and B2 who just missed out.
With strong wins right down the Grades we will now have taken the Minor Premiership for another record 6 times in a row.
Handled ball
In the C2 game a batsmen was dismissed for "handled ball". In the words of Steve Baker:
"The Glenhaven batsmen edged it into his pad and it went back towards his stumps and in his panic to not be out bowled he knocked it away with his hand-the hillarious thing was he then tried to claim that the rules stated he was allowed to do that and that this was taught in the umpires/captains course. I think he needs to go back and re-learn the rules somehow."
Semi-Finals next weekend
Congratulations to the following Teams who will make the Semis. The actual positions in the top 4 will become clearer once other scores come in but it is looking like:

A2 4th
B1 any position from 2nd to 5th
B2 White 3rd
C2 2nd or 3rd
C3 3rd or 4th
D1 2nd
D2 2nd
