Round 6, Day 2 (28th Novemberv 2008)
Body Science compression clothing
Full details of this are in the section following ‘Personal achievements’. This is gaining tradition with half of our A1 side now kitted out in the gear. If you have any interest in backing up without the pains and strains from a tough game then it is really recommended. Details are below.
Junior highlights
WPHC Blue 150 (Kevin Godfrey 42) lost to Hornsby 208 (Giyan Dharmadasa 5/39)
WPHC Red 262 (Alex Rashleigh 149, Shashankh Thirumeni 31) lost to Pennant Hills 2/270
One for the records
What about Alex Rashleigh’s performances this year. Playing a year above his age Alex scored his 2nd ton of the year. He has now scored 419 runs @ 104.75. With only 5 games gone he is on target for the following records:
• Association:
o the record U16 aggregate is 669 scored by Nick Downie way back in 1973/74
o highest average is 128 in 1972/73
• Club – record U16 aggregate is 621 scored by Steve Cass in 1996/97.

Seniors
A1 7/297 drew with Normanhurst-Warrawee 2/1 – one of the downsides of playing at The Glade is that there are no covers and any rain will wash the game out. This happened and it is an opportunity lost to points from this game. That’s the way it goes.
A2 9/105 lost to Kissing Point 5/184 – a game of who can hit the hardest. Playing at Turramurra Oval in a 1-dayer the wicket is so bad that the best approach is to go out swinging and not hang around. Combined with not our best effort in the field, Point have the bigger hitters and that the game story. In the bowling, the wickets takers were spread. Batting, Scott Henderson did it yet again with 37* - our most consistent run scorer when runs are needed.
Colts Red Vs Colts Blue – no play schoolies. The blokes start again on Sunday 7th December
B1 142 and 0/53 defeated outright Mt Colah 52 and 135 – a fantastic result where we thumped the 4th placed team where we continued on from last week. This week our bowlers did it yet again with Andrew Joyce 4/26, James Keely 2/7 (from 5 overs), Paul Tilley 3/37 all made significant contributions. How about James Keely, after his 5/0 he backs it up again with match figures of 7/7 from 12 overs – again against the Team coming 4th. This will move the boys into 1st place and on a roll.
B2 Red Vs bye – this is a 7 team comp so a bye this Round.
B2 White 185 defeated Kissing Point 183 – playing the 2nd placed team we had to do everything right. After Headen Park was mowed we lost about 30 runs in the field. This went down to the wire with our lads taking the last 3 wickets for 0 runs to snatch an amazing win. While medium pacers John Steel (1/47) and Andrew Watt (1 wicket) did their job, our quality spinners (all 4 of them) turned the game. Craig Hutchinson bowled 20 overs to take 2/29 and he got fabulous backup from Chris Sharkey 2/27 (10 overs straight), Kishore 2/39 and a fabulous 1-over spell at the death by Tim Starr who took 2/2. Back this up with some sharp catching and 2 stumpings from Gamini and that was the story.
C2 100 and 7/91 lost to Kenthurst 230 – pretty miserable result for us today. Kenthurst batted on this week for 10 more overs to be bowled out for 230. We showed pretty poor application with the bat to be rolled for about 100 (not sure what we got, actually). We followed-on and finished 7/91. No scores over 20 in either innings. Now look to one-dayers of which we have 7 in a row.
C3 269 lost to CHRSL 6/305 dec – a fantastic effort playing the 1st placed team. To get to within 36 runs of a score of this size is a fantastic effort and shows that we have a lot to offer. Apart from Mark Bell’s rapid fire 53 last week, Peter Heidegger with 79 just continues to score runs. Peter Lee with 32 and Amesh Da Silva (29) also made good contributions but we just missed out. Even so we will take a lot out of this game – good effort fella’s.
D1 7/262 defeated CHRSL 259 – this side is back on track after a great, confidence boosting win today, backing ourselves at what we do best. A strong batting performance right down the order ground down and finally blew apart a good bowling attack from this young CHRSL team. Three solid partnerships won the match for us: Bruce Caldwell & Faisal Shamsi making 56 for the third wicket, Chris Grima & Faisal Shamsi making 55 for the fifth wicket and Simon Bodley & Marco Delgado making 96 for the seventh wicket. Our top scorers: Faisal Shamsi 92, Simon Bodley 50 not out and Marco Delgado 44. This win should lift us to third place on the table going into the one-dayers.
D2 210 lost to Kissing Point 250 – not a bad effort considering we were 3/33 after 20 overs. In the end we only fell 40 runs short with a very good 5th wicket partnership of 58 (V. Ratnam & Claudio Van Blerk). Vishnu Ratnam ended up with 49 and Claudio Van Blerk was the batting hero finishing on 68*. A fine innings from Claudio who achieved a personal best score. Although a loss for us, we have proven to ourselves that we can bat for more than 40 overs and score over 200 runs. This might not mean much to some teams, but to us, it's a major effort!
Back to back outrights
Got to hand it to our B1 boys. After their outright win on the weekend they have now won back to back games outright to rocket to 1st place on the table.
No Ball – not out – it runs in the family
Back in Round 2 Dave Creais (C2) was 'dismissed' twice of no balls before he scored, but didn't prosper and got out shortly afterwards. On the last occasion he walked after being not out.
Against the same bowler today, his son, James followed on well from his Dad. In this game, against the same bowler, James was caught behind off a no ball before he'd score. And true to form, was dismissed next over for 1.
One of those ‘silly’ moments
This one, direct from our fearless C2 skipper (Andrew Fiedler):
“This is really silly, but thought I'd let you know anyway.....Geoff Starr & I were batting near the end of the 2nd innings & having a bit of fun with the Kenthurst veterans, one of whom was genuine veteran Dave Lea. Geoff had just smacked a six, and as we were chatting while they were looking for the ball, I noticed a strange face drawn on Dave Lea's elbow in texta. I said to Geoff, looks like Dave fell asleep early last night & the grandkids drew all over him. I asked Dave 'what's up with the ink on your elbow?' He said...and I'm not shitting you....'aah, I had the family over last night for my birthday. I fell asleep in front of the TV & the grandkids drew all over me'”.

Body Science Compression sports gear
BSC are Club sponsors. They provide compression sporting clothing to major sporting stars. Many NRL Clubs use BSC in preference to Skins. For every purchase, BSC rebate 10% back to our Club that is then used for development - training improvements, coaching and so on.
This product is especially useful for any player who gets niggles during or after games. It is also a very good idea for for Junior and Senior Rep players who have to back up on Saturday's/Sundays plus added training requirements.
If you are thinking about buying compression sports clothing then look no further than BSC - they are superior to Skins and the Club gets a benefit that goes back to our players.
The gear is available in black or white. If you need more information then please go to the BSC website on http://www.bodyscience.com.au/. The website also has a more complete listing of the compression gear product range and also sizing charts to help you work out the right size.
How do I get this gear
Bill Peterkin has kindly offered to be the link between our Club and BSC. All you need to do is to work out what you would like and let Bill know your requirements.
Bill can be contacted on 0488 110 942 or via email billstar@optusnet.com.au
