Round 1, Day 2, 20th September 2008
Junior star of the week
How can anyone go past the outstanding effort from our U16 Red Team in what may be the performance of the year. After powering to a big 6/338 (in one morning) Upper Hills were smashed to be out for 229. What is outstanding on top of this are some amazing indiviual performances:
Alex Rashleigh became the first player in our recorded history (Junior records are a bit sketchy in our first 30 years as a Club) but certainly over the last 30 years no Junior has scored a century (109*) and taken 7 wickets (7/29) in one match
Added to this Alex partnered with Anjan Oberai (149) in a Club and equal Association record 4th wicket partnership of 241
6/338 is also the highest recorded score by an U16 team for our Club.
And to think, this is Round 1! Well done to this outstanding team and to Alex and Anjan.
Seniors
A1 Vs Hornsby competition starts on 27th September when the turf wickets are available.
A2 223 lost to Kissing Point 6/225. After setting a very competitive total we lost to a side that one of the opposition scored a quality 120. Best for us was Michael McGregor (81) and Scott Henderson (55) and in the bowling Scott again with 3/55. A win would have been good a solid start that showed we offer a lot this season.
Colts Red 161 lost to Berowra 216 for our first match in the Colts Competition we put in a more than creditable run chase. Carl Madsen top scored with 41, Adam Hutchings 40 and Isaac Malamel 23 were our best. Not a bad first up effort for Senior cricket for a team that will only get better.
Colts Blue 215 defeated outright Kenthurst 92 and 94. What a powerful start to the season. In the bowling, Dylan Brogan confirmed his potential with 3/10. It was 'Groundhog Day' in the 2nd innings with this time M Guneratne taking 3/8. In the batting Josh Kleinhans with 52 and Tim Starr 80* were brilliant.
B1 8/230 defeated Glenhaven 130 batting on we finished with a very good score on a slow outfield. Great effort from Chris Thorndyke who finished with 87 in his debut match. In the bowling we blew them away. At one stage they were 6/19. Best of our bowlers was Rowan Keating who took a career best of 6/12 after having 5/6 from 5.5 overs the last ball went for 6 runs. Not a bad way to get your 50th career wicket. A big win for a side that will only get better.
B2 5/142 defeated Kissing Point 141 a comfortable win to start the season. Gav Hassett was at his best with 55* but was very well supported by Eric Junkkari with 38. One of the highlights was the 30 run partnership between Eric and his son Daniel (DJ) who score 17 after playing U14 earlier.
C1 164 lost to Kissing Point 175 the one that got away. We always had this game in control but stumbled at the finish. Overnight we were 2/84 and at one stage 2/125 so should never have lost this one. Nathan Fathers showed all his class for 55. We were 2 players down through illness and this was the deciding factor just missing out albeit the 2nd top score being sundries with 54! The team will build over the next couple of matches and this should be an early season hiccup.
C2 235 lost to Normanhurst-Warrawee 7/235. One of those games where we just didnt have the bowling depth to finish this off. No criticism of the bowlers just on the bowling restrictions due to age limitations and Association restrictions. Best for us was Geoff Starr and Luke Hertzog who both took 2 wickets. Once we get these restrictions sorted scores like ours will be more than competitive.
C3 131 lost to CHRSL 152
After being given a gettable 152 target we reached 131 all out. We lost wickets at a steady pace throughout the innings with only Peter Lees (20) offering any meaningful support to Michael Fahey who posted 35. Apart from the opposition tent being dismantled by the wind this is one we should have won with our talented batting line up. This should be nothing more than a speed hump throughout the season.
D1 9/266 drew with St Ives 8/186 batting on to allow, Chris Milojevic to score his first ton he fell 2 runs short with 98. St Ives were never going to get there so played for a draw and got there just. In the bowling, Shankar Ravi was the best with 3 for 36, Marco Delgado 2-26, Roger Friend (1-31), Chris Grima (1-34) and Nick Grima (1-3) all adding to the tally. Many thanks to our two subs, Simon Friend and Ben Harper for a great effort in helping to keep this injury depleted team competitve on this hot and punishing afternoon. This showed that we will up there at the end of the season.
D2 3/162 defeated Kissing Point 8/158 a good first up win for our Soccer dads. Played as a one-dayer, Ian Nichol top scored in his first knock with 47*. Well done fella's.
You know you are in trouble when......
Our father/son C2 side is a very good young side (fathers excluded) but with Age and Association bowling restrictions they lack (just for now) the killer punch to put sides away. After using 9 bowlers, to quote Andrew Fiedler, you know you are in trouble when both wicket keepers bowl.
Memorable debut
Got to hand it to the Thorndyke boys in B1. After Chris scored a fabulous 87 on to the bowling. Chris set the scene with a first ball no ball that went for 4. Not to be outdone, Matt Thorndyke had to do one better. His first ball was a no ball that bowled the opposition batsman. Memorable fellas but great to have you on board.
A bunch of crocks
There must be something about teams Chris Williamson (C3) plays in. After Chris pulled a back muscle umpiring last year, the boys did even better this match. After Michael Fahey pulled his hamstring he need a runner. Out comes Rolf Rassmussen as a runner who then had to be replaced after doing the same thing. Not to be outdone, Chris Williamson then pulled a back muscle- this time at least doing something more strenuous than umpiring.
Photo thief
Got to hand it to Gus Grima our C1 new comer. Showing that he is really keen to be a candidate to win our first-up Photo of the month Competition (details below) out comes the camera when Gus is umpiring. He took some fabulous action shots without anyone knowing and they will appear on the website very soon.

Body Science Compression sports gear
BSC are Club sponsors. They provide compression sporting clothing to major sporting stars. Many NRL Clubs use BSC in preference to Skins. For every purchase, BSC rebate 10% back to our Club that is then used for development - training improvements, coaching and so on.
This product is especially useful for any player who gets niggles during or after games. It is also a very good idea for for Junior and Senior Rep players who have to back up on Saturday's/Sundays plus added training requirements.
If you are thinking about buying compression sports clothing then look no further than BSC - they are superior to Skins and the Club gets a benefit that goes back to our players.
The gear is available in black or white. If you need more information then please go to the BSC website on http://www.bodyscience.com.au/. The website also has a more complete listing of the compression gear product range and also sizing charts to help you work out the right size.
How do I get this gear
Bill Peterkin has kindly offered to be the link between our Club and BSC. All you need to do is to work out what you would like and let Bill know your requirements.
Bill can be contacted on 0488 110 942 or via email billstar@optusnet.com.au
