West Pennant Hills Cherrybrook Cricket Club Est. 1930

Season Wrap-up 22nd March 2008

Junior boys wrap-up
What a tremendous achievement. Our Club has a policy of ‘Participation over results’ so that everyone gets a fair-go. Teams are not graded. The Finals were played on Sunday 10th March and results are to hand.

U16
WPHC Blue (3rd) 63 lost to Upper Hills (1st) 64 (P Bhatia 7/17).

U15
WPHC Blue (1st) 2/130 (K Godfrey 65 and Michael Richards 42) defeated Upper Hills (3rd) 128.

U14
WPHC White (1st) 8/147 (Sid Shanker 43, Darshan Pandya 30) defeated Castle-Hill RSL (3rd) 127 (B Jack 4/22).

U13
WPHC Gold 107 (Tom Lees 38, Arbhi 26) lost to Berowra 9/108.

U12
WPHC Red 8/143 (J Preedy 64* and A Hawkins 48) lost to Mt Colah 5/152

U11
WPHC Gold 7/163 (C Bell 50*, T Mistry 33, A Ramakrishnan 3/20) defeated WPHC Green 151 (A Ramakrishnan 73)

Best ever
This is the first time that we have had 7 teams in the 6 Age Division Finals. The previous best was 4 in both 2005/06 and 2006/07. To achieve this with a ‘Participation over results’ policy is simply outstanding. To win 3 and lose 3 is a fantastic result. The scores are amazing – losing the U16s by 1 run, U13’s by 1 wicket and U12’s by 9 runs says it all. Well done to every team who even made it this far.

Presentation Day
When: Sunday 30th March
Where: Campbell Park or Oakhill Drive Public School at 1.00 pm if it is wet
Time: 11.00 am. This should go for about an hour maximum.

Emerging Blues trialists
Congratulations to the following Juniors who have been rewarded for performances and potential to attend selection trials for the Emerging Blues 2008-09:

U15
• Alex Rashleigh (1 of 3 nominees from our Association for the 1st round - 3 others who are carryovers from last year's EB's)
U14
• Sid Sethi
• Daniel Anderson (2 of 5 Association nominees with 3 carryovers)
U13
• Santosh Krishnan (1 of 5 Association nominees)

Participation over results
Our Juniors have a proud record of not stacking teams and giving every-one a ‘fair-go’. This note from our U11 Gold Premiers says it all:

“Hi Ross
I was just about to delete this email, but thought that you & the junior club committee might like to know that the Clubs policy of participation above results is not just a platitude, as can be gleaned from some of the parents comments from the victorious WPHCCC U11 Gold team below.”

A note from another parent:

“.....Yes to confirm what everyone else has said. The stats of the match ...showed it all that no one was over-bowled, everyone had equal opportunity to bat and everyone had at least 2 overs (against a quality batsman who must have been the best we have encountered).

We won because every boy has been taught to play cricket and has been given the opportunity to do so. A Champion team.”

To participate in all Age Division Finals in this context is an amazing achievement.

Girl’s season wrap-up
Congratulations to our Girls. After a season of many wash-outs and the occasional ‘no-game’ the season is now finished and we look forward to 2007-08.

A special congratulations to Felicity Trinh who was selected as Vice Captain of the Northern Sydney U13 team that played in the Mollie Dive Shield in Jan 08 (Castle Hills). Last week, Felicity received her winning pendant for the Mollie Dive shield plus she won the NSW District Cricket Association Mollie Dive Shield - 2008 Bowling Award.

Congratulations on this great achievement Felicity.

Kanga
Kanga has now finished for the year with the Presentation happening at Edward Bennett Oval on Saturday 8th March. We have 51 ‘Graduates’ who now move on to U9’s next season. Yet another fabulous where even the wet weather didn’t dampen spirits too much.

Seniors Presentation Night – one for the diaries
While yet to be confirmed, it is likely that our Seniors Presentation Night is likely to be:
When: Friday 9th May
Where: Castle Hill RSL
Time: probably around 7.30 pm
Cost to be confirmed

This is always a fabulous night. More info will follow and we will need confirmation of attendance closer to the night. Stay tuned.

Broken Hat-trick
While we have no records on this one it would have to be up there as a Club first.

In the C2 Semi Final against Normanhurst, Chris Williamson closed off the opposition innings with 2 wickets in consecutive balls. The lack of a second innings denied him the chance to officially have a shot at his hat trick. Not to be at all worried by this, Chris came out in the Final to take a wicket with his first ball of the innings, thus giving him 3 wickets in his last 3 balls and in a Final to cap it off.
