Finals - Day 1 (15th March 2008)

An update on the Seniors scores from Saturday follows. Day 2 of the Finals are played on Sunday and ther will be a further update with a fuller report on Monday.

A2 131 Vs Kenthurst 4/104 – batting first we didn’t take advantage of a good Parklands Oval batting wicket to set a good score. Ben Frawley with 37 and Scott Henderson 33, were the key after the early loss of wickets but needed more support. With a strong bowling attack our objective we will be going into Day 2 with a plan to get quick wickets and put them under pressure.

Colts 275 Vs Berowra 5/49 – the lads did what they needed to do on a beautiful batting track at Storey Park. Sujith Dissanayake with 98 was superb and got fabulous backup from Tim Scoular with 53 and Nick Bennett 39. We got the runs quickly and then had 21 overs at Berowra who are in trouble. Dylan Brogan has 2/13 and the killer blow came 2 run-outs – one by Mark Bennett with a direct hit from side on. We are well on the way to winning our first Colts premiership.

C1 White 141 defeated Hornsby 123 and 2/30 – this was always going to be a tough game for both sides on a difficult under-prepared wicket that had a lot of late sideways movement. We bowled and fielded brilliantly but still had a challenging run chase. Geoff Richards with 3/18, John Steel 3/14, Andrew Watt 2/29 and Ben McNamara 2/49 were outstanding. Our turn to bat against a strong attack. At 6/45 we were struggling. Enter Michael McDowell (33) and Geoff Richards (45*) and we got an invaluable lead. This game will be played out over 4 innings with the major risk for us being the leg injuries to Geoff Richards and john Steel – 2 of our 4 quicks.

C2 1/16 Vs CHRSL 300 – playing at Greenway Park we are chasing what is gettable score. Teams need to score between 250 and 300+ to post a competitive score on this deck. This track offers the bowlers no assistance and with a fast outfield this score is not as daunting as it looks. Not surprisingly the quicks did little damage. Steve Steve Baker (4/38), Chris Williamson (3/40) and Jacques Visser (1/30) all bowling spin took the wickets. There is a lot of batting left but this is the place to do it.

Come along and support
Thanks to all those folk who tufrned up to support our Teams. It is a West Penno tradition to come along and support your Club mates. So it would be great to see you turn-up and give the boys a bit of support – it really makes a difference when on the field, especially in tough games. A few years ago when A1 won the Premiership we had about 50 people on the sideline cheering and this got us home by a small margin.

Last premierships
A2 – last won 2006/07 so defending the crown
Colts – first appearance in a Final
