Girls
Competition started on Saturday 13th October but with recent rain we have been struggling to get on. Fingers crossed that this weekend is the one. The Competition runs through to the 15th December. Games then re-commence on the 2nd February until 1st March with Semi Finals / Finals played over 8th and 15th March 2008.
Seniors
At last a dry weekend. The results from Day 1 of Round 6 follow:
A1 5/20 Vs Hornsby 189. After doing well to restrict Hornsby to a moderate score we had 11 overs to bat and the rest is history. Peter Stott bowled beautifully to take 5 wickets and Smokey Dawson also did well with 3. A bit of work to do next week but we just need someone to put their hand up for a big one.
A2 9/237Vs CHRSL. After being 5/95 we fought back well with a couple of quick fire innings - Nick Bennett starring with 60* and Tim Rae 44. We are now in a good position to win the game. How good is steve Quanborough who also registered his first runs of the season, 9 not out and a cracking pull shot for 4 as well.
Colts 160 defeated Hornsby 79. With both teams reduced to 10 plares with HSC and Schoolies we smashed Hornsby. Batting first we scored 160 with Nick Bennett doing it again with 77* following on from his 61* in A2's the day before. Our turn to bat with Dylan Brogan 4 for 18 and Mark Bennett 3 for 22 destroying the Hornsby top order. Great effort fellas.
B1 Blue 279 Vs Mt Colah 1/15. A powerful performance against 3rd placed Mt Colah. Dane Moye just keeps scoring runs with 73, Alistair raiment 71 and Andrew Joyce 56 all made an impact and finished the day with an important breakthrough. The boys are showing that they are going to be a force when the big games start.
B1 Red Vs St Ives scores to come.
C1 White 197 Vs CHRSL White 1/10. While the Holland Road Oval is very short square it is also equally as slow so 197 is a more than competitive score. Michael McDowell continues his great form with 88 (worth a lot more), with John Steel also getting a quick 31. Having 8 overs to bat at the end of the day, they lost an important wicket. Our score will be hard to get unless they have players who can hit over the field.
C1 Red 232 Vs Galston-Glenorie. Another good performance after coming back from the brink at 5/69. Enter Duncan Moore (82) and Michael Hobern (56) who put on 120 runs for the 6th wicket over 2.5 hours. This is looming as a battle of the 2 WPHC sides both with very deep batting orders who have a lot of fight. Well done boys.
C2 2/38 Vs Mt Colah 190. A good result for the premiership front runners. With Jacques Visser and Magpie Singh each taking 3 wickets we had a moderate target to very gettable. With Steve Baker still there and a strong batting order we need only to bat sensible to get the result.
D2 145 Vs Hornsby 4/37. After waiting a while our top order clicked and gave us a good platform. Well done to Bruce Caldwell (39) and John Fraser (20) with good support from Kedar with 20 gave us a reasonable platform. Our bowlers did the real damage though with Bran Ramachandran taking 3/16 to put us in the drivers seat. Good stuff also by Steve Keevy who took 2 good slips catches in quick succession. With a bit of luck / good fielding this could be the one.
Hey dad, dont forget the bat
So far we have had batsmen go out without a pad, protector, helmet and so on but Greg Bell (C1 Red) did the ultimate. Emulating the deeds of a former English Captain, Greg strode on to the field all set to do battle after waiting for 2.5 hours to get his chance to bat after a long partnership. .As Greg strode confidently out to bat he got about half way out to the middle before his son (Mark) called out "Hey dad, what are you going to hit it with, you're left leg?"
Sure enough, Greg had walked out without a bat in hand!!! His excuse; "I was too busy putting my helmet on..." This story may well get even better over the years in the Bell household.
Nappy power
Michael McDowell (C1 White) is in a rich run of form. Now we know his secret. He wears 2 pairs of undies with tape holding both sets up. This isnt because of his fear of fast bowling but an innovative way of holding the protector. There were a couple of kids at the ground and they were amazed the process for taking it all off after the big fella got out. We kept the kids at a safe distance to comply with Michael's legal restrictions (just joking).
