West Pennant Hills Cherrybrook Cricket Club Est. 1930

Round 5, Day 2 (10th November 2007)

Kingsgrove Sports Winner
We have a fantastic relationship with Kingsgrove Sports at North Parramatta who are one of our major Sponsors through their support. This season they are giving away 3 gift vouchers to the value of a purchase made by a West Penno shopper. The winner is drawn randomly from WPHC shoppers.
Congratulations to Liam Hodge (U9 Blue) who has won a gift voucher for – the full value of his purchase.

There is one further draw on the 24th December for any West Penno player who purchases anything from Kingsgrove Sports (just tell them at the time):
So if you need anything sporting – think no one other than Kingsgrove Sports – by far the best Sporting goods retailer in the area and great supporters of our Club.

Seniors
Another week of rain and showers has caused havoc with games getting on. The results after Day 2 are:

A1 drew Kenthurst . Game washed out. The game has finished as a draw.

A2 drew Galston-Glenorie – also washed out. No play either day.

Colts drew CHRSL. Washed out – both days.

B1 Blue drew Normanhurst-Warrawee – another washout.

B1 Red 9/239 drew Glenhaven. A missed opportunity with all Baulkham Hills grounds closed due to rain. This game has finished as a draw.

C1 White 9/262 and 0/15 defeated outright Thornleigh 131 and 155. After fighting back from a difficult position last week we smashed the team in 4th place. Ben McNamara was simply outstanding taking 6/42 (18 overs) in the first innings with controlled outswing that was almost unplayable. Added to this, Andrew Watt 2/48 and John Steel 1/26. Following-on we stepped up again with this time Andrew watt 2/32, John Mitchell 2/51, John Steel 1/9 and Geoff Richards 1/3 doing the damage. With other games being washed out this moves us comfortably to 1st place.

C1 Red drew Ku-ring-gai Chase – no play either day – washed out.

C2 drew Kenthurst 6/261. Day 2 washed out – another draw

D2 drew Kenthurst – Game washed out both days.

Separated at birth
Mention has been made a few times about one of our former greats - big Dale ‘Merv’ Armstrong (3,709 career runs). Merv and Greg Fiedler went to the West Indies for the World Cup. It was mentioned recently that Desmond Haynes went across to Merv to catch-up on old times. We now have photographic evidence to prove that story that ‘Merv’ is a double to Merv. Have a look at the Photo gallery and see this remarkable resemblance.

Weekend at Bernie’s
One of our rising stars, Dave Meizis (C1) was ‘missing in action’ last week and no one knew where we was. It all came out this week. Dave had a big night/morning on Friday night and ended up on a park bench at Double Bay, not knowing where he was, missing his mobile and wallet and basically written off. We might start calling Dave Bernie given that he had no idea where he was or what happened.

The double groin strain – the truth
Just like those now famous blistered hands of Peter Westerberg (caused by rowing, ofcourse) the health of one of our long term ‘Want to be Legends’ – (your friendly Club Secretary Ross A) is gaining increasing publicity around the Association. The injury was actually caused on the field during a big score and had nothing to do with the injury that Peter Westerberg incurred. What we can’t go into is the treatment in the interests of protecting the innocent.

Try the other one
Got to hand it to Michael McDowell (A2 and C1 ) who is in a golden patch of batting form. After losing 3 wickets in an over he came out to bat on the hat-trick ball. Problem is that Michael was half way out to bat with only one pad on. He eventually got there, avoided the hat-trick and scored 74.

Alternatively, just go to Links on our website and it is the first entry.

Probably worth locking this into your favourites and checking after each game for the standings.
