Day 2 of Round 2 kicked off on the weekend- results will be advised when available.
Seniors
Day 2 of Round 2 - here we go:
A1 74 lost to ARL 180 – the last of our 1-dayers to catch-up to the rest of the Competition. After a good win last week we came back to earth. We bowled well to hold ARL to a gettable score. Adam Walter and Amir Marzouk each with 3 wickets were our best. Not much in the batting with only another youngster (15 and 2 months), Ryan Blaker with 22 top scoring – on to next week.
A2 186 defeated ARL 129 – another powerful performance from this team defending a moderate score. Our bowling did it this match with Sam Baidya taking 4 wickets. We are on track to be up there at the end of the season.
Colts 5/207 defeated Normanhurst 100 – a very good win by this talented group of players who are already getting a reputation around the Association as an outstanding group of young people. Nick Bennett was the star with 97* but was well supported by Taylor Paton with 33. In the bowling Dylan Brogan got 5/20 with Tim Anderson 3/20. Nick also backed up with 3 catches. A very impressive win with a highlight being our ability to control the match.
B1 Blue 268 defeated B1 Red 116 – the Blues, promoted from B2 before the season started had a big win against a depleted Red side with 2 players unavailable due to injury. Batting on in recognition of the strength of the Blues, the boys set a formidable score. Great result for Dominic Burke who batted on to finish with 120*. Tim Connell did what he does best with 3/48 and Chandana got a couple of big wickets.
C1 4/247 defeated outright ARL 63 and 101. An outright win wrapped up by 2.15 pm on day 2 from this talented side that does not have a weakness. The damage was done last week when we needed 8 wickets on Saturday to get the 10 points. This week it was for the bowlers – Ben McNamara shifted up a gear and took 3/12 in one over and was well supported by Andrew Watt (2/23) and Sahil last week with his 2/14.
C2 234 defeated ARL 182. Our opening bowlers pair of Jacques and Jaskaran put the ARL batsmen under good pressure restricting their scoring to below 1 run per over for the first 10 overs. We didn’t have to worry about the inability to get LB’s and catches – all 8 the wickets taken on the day were bowled. Wickets were shared with Jacques (2/40), Isaac (2/21) and Faisal (2/23) all contributing. This side is developing into a very good side with strength in batting and bowling – keep it going fella’s.
C3 210 and 4 dec 91 defeated Kissing Point 136 and 1/72 – another big win from a team on a roll. James McBrien continues his golden patch from last season with 59 and Michael Hobern with 43. Duncan Moore took 3/19 as the standout bowler. In the 2nd innings, Tim Starr unleashed an awesome batting performance to smash 73 but not enough time to get the outright. Well done fella’s.
D2 124 and 87 lost outright Redfield 309 – we were smashed this match by a team playing well below where they should be. Despite the modest scores there were some good starts in both innings with Luke Christensen 24 and 18, Jon Van Blerk 23, Claudo Van Blerk 21 and Alok Pradhan 19. While a tough game we have the basis of a good team – against D Grade standard opposition.
Well done Gav
Congratulations to Gavin Taylor (A1) on being selected in Northern Districts Green Shield team – for the second year in a row. Good one mate.
I was there….
A comment from a senior player in one of the C Grade teams (names withdrawn to protect the innocent third parties involved) took the bottom of the barrel. After one of the players arrived late to the game he commented “….ask the wife why I was late”. The response from another senior player, ‘no need, she told me last night when you away’. It can only get better from there.
Talking about ducks
Gavin Taylor (A1) scored a golden yesterday (sorry mate) but this is becoming common. Two years ago he was out 1st ball (his first ever golden) when one of our Junior players at the game asked him if he had ever got one – the answer was no but that changed 30 minutes later. On to Saturday, Gav asked about ‘Lovey the Duck’ – team mascot for A1 who gets handed out to scorers of 0. It happened again – another golden. Might be something to learn here Gav.
Twice in a day
Peter Westerberg
Peter (D2) is another of that rare group of players building into Club icon status. While records on this one are difficult to source other than from long term memories of our long standing members Peter may well have set a Club record – being run out twice on the same day. Well done on making the record books Peter.
John Steel
John (C1) had the distinction of being retired twice on the same day. First after getting 100* 9this is OK) but then by the Captain after bowling 2 overs and taking a wicket in the 2nd over. Obviously a Captain who is very hard to please.
You know who your mates are
James Makin (A2) the Steve Menzies of WPHC who would rescue a drowning fly if he saw one, commented that the highlight of the good A2 win was Booney (another legendary figure). According to James, Booney was “...just being Booney – a loudmouth” (the intent was good here – not as bad as it sounds). He then commented on the big man’s great catch that missed his hands and got ‘stuck’ in the catching support of his chest.
“Desperately unlucky”
In an U12 game just completed the Team thumped Castle Hill with a massive score of 1/275. The one wicket to fall was a young bloke who was out for 4. According to people, at the game he was out to the only catch of the day and a brilliant one at that – the best quote is that he was “Desperately unlucky”.
Good one Kishore
Capt Kish (C1) has done it again – inspiring confidence into hapless batsmen at the other end while he is umpiring. Andrew Fiedler was batting (and doing it well). After an appeal for LBW, Kish raised his finger and commented softly “That’s not out – he hit it” – problem is that only the batsman heard the comment - just. Kish struck back later giving Andrew out LBW – this time from mid off about 30 seconds after the appeal.
