Final Day 2 (25th March 2007)
Seniors
The season is now over with the Finals completed. Congratulations to our Premiers:
• A2
• B1
• D2
To B2 who lost with just 9 balls to go – bad luck fella’s but a great fight.
Match reports
A2 1/81 drew Galston-Glenorie 165 (a win as we finished Minor Premier).
Day 1 – after winning the toss and sending them in on a track that had a bit of early juice (Parklands Oval) we made early inroads until the recovered. Sean Doohan (4/31) and Matt Jobson (2/28 from 15 overs) did a lot of damage. Andrew Driscoll with 2/17 completed the job. Overnight we are well placed with Leigh Van den Broeke 40* and James Makin 26*. Still a bit to do but the boys are well on the way to taking out only our 3rd A2 Premiership win.
Day 2 – heavy overnight rain and wind that lifted the covers made it impossible to get a start. While it would have been good to finish off the game with a win we will take the points having finished as Minor Premier. Congratulations to the boys who have now notched up our 3rd A2 Premiership win.
B1 Red 162 drew with Castle Hill 2/40 (a win as we finished Minor Premier).
Day 1 – batting first at Storey Park we got away to good start – 1/51 and doing it well. Then a collapse to be 7/90 and a recovery to finish at 162. Leading the recovery at the end was Tony Hadley was the architect with 42* with Gav Taylor (27) and Dale Van den Boogaard (20) doing their bit. A couple of early wickets and this game gets even more interesting than it is at present.
Day 2 – like A2, heavy rain got under the covers and no play. As we took out the Minor Premiership we also won the Premiership.
B2 137 lost to Mt Colah 240.
Day 1 – a bit of work to do against 2nd placed Mt Colah but still well placed overnight with a powerful batting lineup. Justin Patterson was the star with the ball taking 5 wickets. A solid start has given us a good base to start the run chase again
Day 2 – a thriller with the game off and on due to showers throughout day 2. A fantastic effort that went down to the final 9 balls. After a good start we were 0/60 odd with Andrew Mills 38 and Alex Connell 26 and cruising. then came the rain and we crashed to be 8/90 on a spiteful pitch. Enter Andrew Percival and Ben Nolan who batted out the next 17 overs to almost get us there. In bad light with rain falling and 9 balls to go Andrew was out bowled and we just missed out. While losing the lads can take a lot out of the fight we out up.
D2 169 defeated Kissing Point 62 and 3/38.
Day 1 – after losing the toss and batting first we are now in a solid position. Mark Bell top scored with 37, ably assisted by Nigel Moore whose 30 was compiled in another gutsy innings from him, lasting for over three hours. We needed early breakthroughs and got them with Geoff Starr taking 3 for 9. We can see the finish line but just need to finish the job.
Day 2 – we finished the job despite intermittent rain that saw us on and off the field. despite this we crushed the Minor Premier. Jeff Starr was at his best taking 4/20 odd with excellent support from Duncan Moore (2 wickets), Matt Thomas and James McBrien – 1 wicket each. For some reason they wanted to bat again but we hit them again with Duncan Moore doing the damage with another 2 wickets. Congratulations fella’s on winning the Premiership – our first since 2001-02 and 3rd overall.
Peter Westerberg’s summary
"To put the match in a nutshell, we played the two days with a real hunger for victory (they didn't); we fielded brilliantly, we held all of our catches, and on day one, when we were supposed to fold up quickly, we batted, if not brilliantly, with true guts and determination until we had ground out a big enough total to see us over the line. A great effort by every man in the team."
