Final Day 1 (24th March 2007)

Seniors
We are now down to the last game with 4 Teams in the Final. Results after Day 1 are below. Day 2 is played on Sunday.

A2 1/81 Vs Galston-Glenorie 165. After winning the toss and sending them in on a track that had a bit of early juice (Parklands Oval) we made early inroads until the recovered. Sean Doohan (4/31) and Matt Jobson (2/28 from 15 overs) did a lot of damage. Andrew Driscoll with 2/17 completed the job. Overnight we are well placed with Leigh Van den Broeke 40* and James Makin 26*. Still a bit to do but the boys are well on the way to taking out only our 3rd A2 Premiership win.
B1 Red 162 Vs Castle Hill 2/40. Batting first at Storey Park we got away to good start – 1/51 and doing it well. Then a collapse to be 7/90 and a recovery to finish at 162. Leading the recovery at the end was Tony Hadley with 42* and Dale Van den Boogaard (20). A good effort also by Gav Taylor with 27 at the top of the order. A couple of early wickets and this game gets even more interesting than it is at present.
B2 0/16 Vs Mt Colah 240. A bit of work to do against 2nd placed Mt Colah but well placed overnight with a powerful batting lineup. Justin Patterson was the star with the ball taking 5 wickets. A solid start has given us a good base to start the run chase again.
D2 169 Vs Kissing Point 3/13. After losing the toss and batting first we are now in a solid position. Mark Bell top scored with 37, ably assisted by Nigel Moore whose 30 was compiled in another gutsy innings from him, lasting for over three hours. We needed early breakthroughs and got them with Geoff Starr taking 3 for 9. We can see the finish line but just need to finish the job.

Legends in action
How about Peter Taylor (B1), who was due to leave for China on Sunday but has changed all his business plans to play in the Final. Well done mate.

Another classic Tony Hadley effort. After getting the call late Friday night to fill in after a late withdrawal, Tony has done it yet again. This time he was in a conference call with his boss in China when a couple of wickets fell quickly. Tony did what anyone with a long career in mind would do – he hung up on his boss to allow him to go out and bat. Not sure about the job prospects but he got 42*.

Love is in the air
It’s not Spring but there must be something in the air. Here goes:

JB
Jon Burns, married in spectacular style last year is now expecting, or at least his wife is. They are due to have a little girl in 7 weeks – well done mate, we guess that you are the father.

Matt Rae
One of our long term players now in Melbourne is finally engaged after a 4 year trial. No doubt a lovely lady but apparently she is a fan of ‘Paradise by the dashboard lights (an old Meatloaf song)’. According to his brother there is video footage.

Legendary stuff in the making
Tony Hadley is usually ‘The Man’ who flies from all over the world to make it to games. Peter Taylor is now about to break into this legendary status. After ‘brilliant’ Captaincy from Dale Van den Boogaard who batted Peter at 8, 9 or 10 throughout the season he promoted Peter to number 3 for the Semi where he scored a classy 58*. The problem is that Peter has to fly to China next Sunday, (day 2 of the Final) for work commitments. When Peter changes his flight to Monday he will join Tony Hadley in legendary status.
