Seniors
Day 2, Round 14, our last competition round before the Semi finals, was played on Saturday. Results are:

A1 155 lost to Normanhurst 3/200. Despite early juice in the wicket it flattened out into a good track and 4th placed Normo did it easily. Good stuff to Ben Frawley with his best figures of the season with 3/48. We finished the season coming 5th so this gives us a good base for next season.
A2 5/184 defeated Berowra 182. this was an important match only from the viewpoint of seeing which team would finish 2nd . This has good psychological benefit as we play Normo again next week in the Semi Final and if it rains we get the benefit of being better placed. Well done to Ranga with 56*, Jobbo 36 and Michael Banner 20.
Colts 4/56 defeated Hornsby 46 and 7/138 – a powerful result with the boys smashing 2nd placed Normanhurst to put us comfortably in 4th place and an appointment with clear-out competition leaders Castle Hill.
B1 Blue 3/107 defeated Kenthurst 90. Three wins from the last 4 games was a good finish to the season. Dan Moye got a good 54* and Ryan Cherrie another impressive 46*. On their day the boys can beat anyone but lacked consistency but certainly no lack of talent.
B1 Red 130 lost to Kissing Point 159. A good work out against minor premier Kissing Point. We pushed them to the limit after they were 9/110 and in trouble. Star with he ball was Dave Matthews with 6/53 with Eric also chipping in with 3/35. While losing form is not always god going into a Semi the boys showed a lot of ticker for the big one next week against Kenthurst.
B2 4/147 defeated ARL 141. Another solid workout has put the boys into 1st place. This was a comfortable game with Gav Hassett 46, Adam Walter 42 and Millsy 32 all getting into good form just before the big games.
C1 7/34 defeated Glenhaven 139. We did it. After a bad start to the season we have now won 4 on the trot to be the form team in C1. Our bowlers turned it on, fielders took catches and we steam rolled 2nd placed Glenhaven. Stars with the ball were Pat Nesbitt again with 2/16, Chris Collits 2/19, Kishore 2/19. Nathan also took 3 catches and a stumping. We could really give this comp a shake from here.
C2 76 Vs Ku-ring-gai Chase 230 – after a big win last week we stumbled to have a shocker with the bat. But....we finished in the top 4 and if these boys perform they can do anyhting on their day.
C3 53 and 100 lost outright to Galston-Glenorie 2/178 – it would have been good to get a win in the last game but the boys lost to strong minor premier. There is always next season.
D2 63 lost to Normanhurst 179. An unfortunate lapse after all our good work over recent weeks, but a pretty meaningless result in this dead rubber between confirmed second and third in the comp. Hopefully this will serve as a timely wake-up call to us before our back-up semi against Normanhurst, starting next week.. Matt Thomas top scored with a patient and disciplined 27*, also sharing the bowling honours (two wickets each) with Tim Starr. Fortunately this team has a habit of bouncing back, stronger than ever after a loss like this, so roll on the semis!

Semi Finalists
Last year was a record for us with 7 teams in the Semi’s. This year we backed it up 7 teams again. The big difference this year is that of our 7 last season we went down in every game – not this year. Congratulations to the Teams that made it through:
• Colts (4th position) Vs Castle Hill @ Storey Park
• A2 (1st) Vs Kenthurst @ Turramurra Oval
• B1 Red (3rd) Vs Kenthurst @ Headen Park
• B2 (1st) Vs Castle Hill @ Normanhurst Oval
• C1 (4th) Vs St Ives @ Hassell Park
• C2 (2nd) Vs Normanhurst @ Thornleigh Oval
• D2 (2nd) Vs Normanhurst Vs Glenhaven.

Representative stars
Just a note from our A1 Captain and Coach of the Telegraph Team side:

“I wanted to make everyone aware that the HKHDCA Telegraph Shield team (U/23's) has taken out the premiership, knocking off Camden, who have beaten us in the previous 2 finals. I believe this is only the 2nd time that our Association has won this competition.

Our club was extremely well represented, with Peter Stott (Captain), Matt Spalding, Nathan Orton and Adam Walter playing. Spaldo took 4 wickets and Orto 3 in the final, as we beat Camden by 30 odd runs.”
Well done fella’s.

Married bliss
In the crucial C1 game on the weekend, one of our players had to leave early. We also had to win the game to book a place in the Semi’s. Fortunately, Eric Junkkari turned up after his B1 game finished early but not before the dear wife of one of our players (yours truly) was on her way to the game to make up the numbers. It just happens that the lady in question is former Australian Women’s great Denise Annetts. The moral for those lads still unmarried, keep a lookout for a woman who can play the game – makes for a marriage made in heaven and helps if the team is ever short.

A story of catching
Just spare a thought for the C3’s. While they missed the Semi Finals the lads made things tough for themselves by dropping an average of 10 catches a game with a season high of 15 against Wahroonga. So at face value they came last. If they had taken half of these catches we may well have made the semi’s. But as Roger says, everyone contributed.

Points table
The points table is available team by team through the DCA website http://www.cricketnsw.com.au/hkhdca/ and is current soon after each game so try it out when you get a chnace.
