Round 12, Day 1 (27th January 2007)
Kanga Dads game
The next big event will be our Kanga Dads game on the 18th Feb at Campbell Park and is fast approaching. The ground is now booked and ready to go. More info will follow but if invited give this some thought. We have played this over the last 3 years and it is has a real success. Stay tuned over the coming week.
Umpire training course
Cricket NSW is running courses over four successive Thursday evenings. There is also an examination held on the 5th night – also a Thursday. Details are:
• When: Thursdays Feb 8, 15, 22 and March 1st – exam on March 8th
• Where: Cricket NSW Offices – Driver Ave, Paddington (next to Aussie
Stadium)
• Time: 6.30pm – 9.30pm
• Cost : $50.00 includes Law Book and Manual
• To book: please contact David Townsend on 9339-0942 or email david.townsend@cricketnsw.com.au
The Association funds successful candidates to a limit of five people. This is a very good course and if you have the time it is time well spent.
Fees
With the season fast approaching a conclusion we still have some folks with fees outstanding. We are finalising the outstandings now but your assistance in paying your Captain if you are in this position would be appreciated. Fees are $230 for seniors and $180 for Schoolboys. If you started late in the season the cost is a simple pro-rata.
Girls update
The Girl’s restart their season next weekend.
Juniors
The Juniors are in recess until late January.

Seniors
Day 1, Round 12 was played on Saturday. Results are:
A1 1/21 Vs Hornsby 199. A solid day with Matt Spalding 3, Amir Marzouk 2, with one wicket each to Simon Smyth, Chris Rae and Matt Dawson. In reply we are well placed and given a dry track next week should knock these runs off.
A2 182 defeated ARL 131. A2’s are playing a catch-up 1 dayer. The lads are now starting to put back-to-back- wins together and this consolidates our top 4 position in a tight table. Chopper Boon was the star with the bat, scoring 43. Sean Doohan also got a good 40. With the ball, Sean Doohan 4/40 and Brad Brad Hingle 4/8 made the final difference. Another 1-dayer next week against top placed Galston-Glenorie and we have a definite top 3 spot.
Colts 125 Vs Normanhurst 3/29. A hard slog with WPH scoring our runs off 57 overs. Scott Henderson guided us to any sort of respectability with a hard fought 30. A last wicket partnership of 30 between Mark Bonnichsen and Dylan Brogan may prove vital with Normo teetering in response.
B1 Red 3/131 defeated WPHC Blue 121. One of those ‘no-win’ matches’ with two West Penno teams going head to head. The ‘Reds’ bowled first with John Steele doing the damage with 3/20. The Red’s are well placed going into Day 2 with Gav Taylor on a roll with 59*.
B1 Blue Vs WPHC Red – as above.
B2 5/46 Vs CHRSL 216. Everything was going well until we had to bat. Adam Walter was the star with the ball taking 7/22 – our first this year and the 124th time in our History – a fabulous effort in this Grade. The problems started when we batted when we lost 3 wickets as part of a hat-trick. The boys say the quality bats are yet to come in so fingers crossed.
C1 4/112 Vs Hornsby 131. The roll continues with first innings points just a few hits away allowing us to position this for an outright. Chris Collits was superb again taking 5/24 off 9 and Bryce Morley has rediscovered his form of 2 years ago with 2/29 off 10 overs. In the batting, Montview is a like a beach so is very slow but 10 points beckons. A 10 pointer here will put us in close striking distance to the top 4. Once there we can do some real damage.
C2 0/0 Vs Pennant Hills 245 – a solid if not spectacular day. Roland Flanagan was our best bowler with 4/33. At the end we had 1 over to face and saw it through without lost so honours shared.
C3 96 Vs Berowra 0/76 – it will be tough to bounce back and win ths game but where there is a will. No major batting or bowling performances - yet.
D2 111 lost to Kissing Point 9/112 in a 1-dayer.A narrow loss to the competition leaders – losing in the second last over of the day. Geoff Starr was our best bat with 42*. Best bowlers were Geoff Starr 3 for 25, Tim Starr 2 for 25. We have a good draw with the remaining games so if we play to potential will get a top 4 spot.
With friends like this
Big Chopper Boon (A2) scored his 2,000 Club runs last Saturday – a wonderful achievement. James Makin dropped me a note to let me know – it runs like this: “In case you hadn’t heard, Booney got the monkey off his back this weekend and finally chalked his 2,000th run. It was done in typical Booney fashion - a glorious tonk over cow corner.”
Also on complimentary comments from team mates – one of Matt Spalding’s team mates commented that the big fella had to leave the field after being hit in the shin fielding. In the words of the anonymous informant, ‘he is pretty soft’ – good one Thinker.
Sharp as a Bowling Ball – 5
It is always great to see Tim Leyshon (A2) back at the Club – one of our real characters. The only thing we need to do is make sure he brings the score book along to remember what happened in the just completed game. So we think we have the scores for A2 right but will wait until the official update comes out.
Tim isn’t on his own. B1 Captain Dale Van den Boogaard also had a shocker – he had no memory of who took the wickets in his game – he was only making the bowling changes so I guess this is understandable.
Pie throwers
Speaking of astute Captains. The Big Unit (Gav Hassett B2 Captain) was playing at Annangrove, one of the smaller grounds in the comp. Despite this, the big fella is calling for relay throws to get the ball from the boundary to the stumps. By the look of it, the B2 lads must be practicing throwing pies in they are struggling with these boundaries.
The Legend continues
We try and make this a Tony Hadley free weekend because he just keeps doing it. But ‘The Man’ just keeps delivering. Already this season he has come back from China to play, left his mothers Wedding Reception in Perth to get to the game and on Saturday he made the treck from Perth again, arriving 30 minutes late with a cab from the airport. This one is a sheer guess but Sir Richard may well be the first player in our history to clock up Qantas Frequent Flyer Platinum status just getting to cricket games. Next week we will get a photo of ‘The Man’ on the website so that his identity is known to the World.
Game against the SpeedBlitz Blues
Cricket NSW is offering a Club team to play a game against the SpeedBlitz Blues at the Sydney Cricket ground. The Roads and traffic Authority (RTA) is inviting all Clubs to play an online game at www.speedblitz.com. All you need to do is go online and get batting. Up to 12 people can play in a game. The ‘Play as a team’ page has all the information you need to form a team and enter the competition.
Points table
While the points table is available team by team through the DCA website http://www.cricketnsw.com.au/hkhdca/ the summary position follows:

A2 – 38 (3rd)
Colts – 33 (4th)
B1 Red – 51 (2nd)
B1 Blue – 31 (6th, 10 points off 4th spot)
