Round 7, Day 1 (16th December 2006)
Bradman Oval match
What a shame – wet weather has caused the rescheduling of the game but it will now happen early in 2007. Stay tuned. The next big event will be our Kanga Dads game on the 18th Feb. More info will follow on this one.

Weekend games
Round 8, 1-dayer is all done and dusted this weekend. Results are:
A1 125 lost to Kenthurst 2/126. Apart from Amir Marzouk’s fabulous 64 there wasn’t a lot to highlight in this match. Kenthurst cruised past us in 33 overs so a comprehensive loss. Just on Amir, this brought up his 3,000 career runs – placing him in the top 20 players of all time.
Colts Vs Kenthurst – no play , wash out.
A2 6/196 defeated Galston Glenorie 191. A big win against the competition leaders will put us back into the top 4. Bolstered by some of the Colts players who were washed out we put in a big performance. Everyone contributed. Big Booney scored 44, leaving him 4 short of his 2,000 career runs, James Fiedler 35*, James Makin 28 and Michael Banner 26 all made excellent contributions. Michael McDowell 2/40 and Matt Jobson 2/18 also played big roles. Well done boys.
B1 Red 201 lost to Castle Hill RSL 160. After storming through Round 1 the boys have had a little stumble losing their last 2 games in this top of the table clash. Dale van Den Boogaard continued his good form with 30 with Peter Taylor also getting a good 31. Star of the day through was Gav Taylor with 5 wickets bowling his wily off spin.
B1 Blue 184 defeated Berowra 74. When on song these boys are a very good side and they clicked yesterday. Simon Joyce with 54 and Andrew McKinnon 46 dominated and then Rowan Keating 3/28, Martin Joyce 3/12 and Alistair Rayment 2/10 then completed the demolition. After this win and the recent form they are making a run for the top 4 – provided they get that consistency.
B2 7/191 defeated St Ives 7/188. Another win for a team now 15 points clear in 1st place but oh so close – we were really pushed. Alex Connell 37 and Millsy 35 were our best with the bat. Tim Connell then took 2 wickets to complete the job.
C1 145 lost to St Ives 153. Playing the top team we just lost a thriller – needing 8 runs to win off the last over we just missed out. Mark Twohig, playing his last game before spending 12 months overseas bowled beautifully to take 4/ 22 from 8 overs. Chris Collits also chipped in with 3/30. In the batting we got off to a bad start being 3/11 but fought back well with Legend Tony Hadley just back from China scoring 59*. While we lost this is now looking a very good team and a fearless prediction will make the top 4 and give the Comp a shake.
C2 151 lost to Thornleigh 9/151. Another top of the table clash with a very close game. Ralf Rasmussen and Mark Carnerio both with 50s were best with the bat but we just fell short.
C3 4/130 defeated Castle Hill RSL 128. An important game to keep us in touch with the top 4. Ashram Ahmed (3/27), Faisal Shamis (3/12) Jaskaran Singh (1/21) and a very unlucky Jacques Visser (0/26) all bowled well for their allotted 8 overs. Our run chase started a little shakily at 4/48 but with 35 not out for Faisal Shamis and 51 not out from Ashraf Ahmed (our bowling heroes) we reached the required score with 8 overs to spare.
D2 4/244 defeated Galston-Glenorie 118 – yet another top of the table clash and close to our best win of the season. This team really is going places. Batting for WPHC opener James McBrien again led the way with a fine 79, ably supported by a rock solid Nigel Moore (49 not out) and a superb dashing innings of 45 in just 37 minutes from Geoff Starr including six fours and three sixes. Bowling, Matt Thomas (3 for 19) and James McBrien (2 for 25) combined to break the back of the Galston-Glenorie batting, while Mark Bell chipped in with a great effort, taking 2 for 19, a catch and combining with keeper Duncan Moore for a run out.
A timely reminder
At times we can all get so involved about winning, this from Geoff Newman is a good reminder about the reasons why we play the game. As Simon Smyth A1 Captain says “this incident was a reminder that we are not playing for sheep stations, and that good sportsmanship has a part in our game”:
“I am not sure if Simon has mentioned a very sporting incident that took place in the WPHC Vs Hornsby A1 match last weekend. One of our batsman was given out caught at silly mid off. The fielder had caught the ball on the half volley! The batsman (Troy) stood there dejected, accepted the umpires decision and trudged off. The Hornsby team were in a huddle and then they called the batsman back. At the time of the incident the match was very close. Troy had been batting for quite a while I understand. When Troy was called back to the crease all the WPHC players clapped the Hornsby team for their sporting gesture. Troy was still batting when we passed their score, although he did get out the next ball!!
In my years of playing A Grade and many years watching A Grade I can not recall a more sporting gesture. I think this incident is worthy of sending to the Association and Hornsby A Grade in particularly be commended for playing Cricket in the spirit of the game. As you know WPHC went on the win the game!”
Thanks mum
Aspiring Club icon Bryce Morley is etching his name ever closer to Tony Hadley status within our Club. How good is this one. Bryce’s dear mum had a birthday yesterday and made a beautiful cake for the C1’s that was duly demolished by the boys. A lovely gesture. Where Bryce comes in is the way he attended to everyone. Certainly a future leader of the Ladies Auxiliary next year. Seriously though this was a lovely thought Mrs Morley.
Watch what you say
Big Davie Muir made his debut in C1 yesterday taking a great catch. What makes this different is that Davie (203 centimetres) has just finished a Super 14 career with the Brumbies and is now a professional heavy weight, having knocked out the World Number 3 in a recent fight. Somehow we can’t see too many behaviour problems from the opposition.
One of those overs
Despite having a big win the now mighty B1 Blues had one of those overs. Spare a thought for Simon Joyce. In one over he had a sequence of: dot ball, runout, dropped catch, dropped catch, dropped catch and bowled.
Sharp as a bowling ball – 4
Club great Eric Junkkari (B2) figures this week courtesy of Nishane Pillay. Nishane was asked the politically correct question with all the sensitivity; “What religion are you?” The response was “Muslin and I’m fasting”. All was going well until Eric saw Nishane out the back tucking into a hamburger and in Eric’s words he was eating “any meat he could get his hands on” (the mind boggles). All was revealed later Nishane confirmed he wasn’t Muslim and was just hungry – good one Eric.
