Round 6, Day 1 (28th November 2006)
Bradman Oval match
As one of the events to celebrate our 60th Anniversary coming up this season we have booked Bradman Oval for Sunday 3rd December as a Club Day. We are now going through an invitation selection list with the main criteria being those who have given service to our Club.
Girls update
Our Girls are also tracking very well. We have 2 teams this year (a B and C grade side). Round 3 is now complete. Scores will be updated when they come to hand.
Juniors
Round 5 day 2 result highlights are now to hand. Major achievements:
Tim Starr (100*) and Daniel Brain (91) put on 182 for the 3rd wicket playing in the U15s against our Red side. Junior records are a lacking post 1980 but certainly since this time it is a Club record for the U15s. Great effort fellas
Another big partnership in the U14s with S Wray 75* and J Joseph 69 putting on 152 runs, just not sure of the wicket yet. This is another big partnership that is being checked out for records.
Tim Starr had one of those games worth bottling. In addition to his batting he comes out and takes 3/8 a hat-trick.

Seniors
Round 6 day 1 started on the weekend. Results are:
A1 198 lost to Berowra 248. We lost the game but took a lot out of the match. After having them 4/210 at Tea we came back strongly and took the last 6 wickets for 30 runs. The stars were Simon Smyth with 6/47 off 10 his 2nd best ever bowling figures backed up by Smokey Dawson with 3/50.
Colts Vs Hornsby a bye this match.
A2 7/300 dec defeated Beecroft 150. An important win against 2nd placed Beecroft. A comprehensive win in all facets. After batting on, we spanked an extra 60 runs in 7 overs with Brad Hingle 81* and Scott Henderson 41*. In the bowling, Ranga took 3/29, Brad 2/12 off 6 overs and Steve Q took 3 for. Against a strong Beecroft team this is a good outcome and consolidates our top 4 position.
B1 Red 205 defeated St Ives 111. We smashed 3rd placed St Ives. Stars wth the ball were Eric Junkkari with 3 wickets and Dave Matthews 3/35 for 18. The boys finished them off at 3.15pm and decided it was too hot to go for the outright but not hot enough to complete a 70 sprint race more about this later!
B1 Blue 304 defeated Normanhurst 245. An important win to get us back in touch with the top 4. We made it tough on ourselves. fielding with 8 and a half players (2 late withdrawals plus a hamstring injury to Alistair) we showed heaps of guts. Iain Ryan was the standout bowler with 4/42. The big difference was the catching we took 5 screamers whereas last game we put down 5 sitters. The boys are on a roll.
B2 248 defeated outright Nth Wahroonga 143 and 3/96 declared. An easy win but ruined by a second innings declaration because a number of players had to go after Tea not good enough. Our boys though were super. Ben Nolan with 5/40 and Tim Millington 3/49 were just too good.
C1 240 defeated Normanhurst 173. Our 2nd win on the trot and it was almost the perfect game everything went right, strong batting, good bowling and super caching. All the bowlers performed well. Pat Nesbitt got another 4/34 this time opening the bowling, Mark Twohig finally had some catches held to get a good 2 wickets and finished with 2/37. Andrew Watt also gpot 2 good ones. We are now just out of the top 4 but are building a team capable of causing some damage in the competition.
C2 264 defeated Kissing Point 202 we did our best to lose this one but got there. After being 0/88 overnight and then 8/180 we were on the brink. Enter Senthu and Jeremy Foley (78) who belted 80 under pressure. Star with the bat was James Fiedler who scored his 1st ton with 102 great stuff mate our 321st century.
C3 208 drew with Glenhaven 8/191 this was Chris Williamsons match. He batted all 89.2 overs of our innings of 208, being the last man out for 83 on a very slow ground. Roger reckons he was tempted to get out the XXXX beach cricket. A few early dropped catches cost us. With 10 overs to go Glenhaven and only needed 48 runs with 6 wickets in hand they decided to play for the draw. A tribute to the accuracy of our bowlers particularly in the late stages of this game.
D2 7/219 defeated Kenthurst 147. Another good win from a team that is going places. The guys made it look easy today, especially opener Mark Bell (another fine, patient innings of 58, retired - not out), James McBrien (46) and Nigel Moore (32), while two of our tail-enders, George Petridis (19) and Greg Bell (10) fired up to rub salt into Kenthurst's wounds late in the day. The match next week will be a real test bring them on.
The sprint that cost us
You have to hand it to the B1 Red boys. After smashing St Ives before Tea it was just too hot to play on so we called the game. But
.why not have a 70 metre sprint and they did. Unfortunately our star opening bowler, Dave Matthews tore a quad muscle and puts him in big doubt for the future. The good news is that Nathan Orton won the race by 10 metres. Good one fellas sharp as a bunch of bowling balls.
Mental turnaround
Got to hand it to Eric Junkkari (B1) last week he had no idea of what happened in the game he just played. This week he remembered every detail nothing like a bit of public humiliation for our aspiring Club icon.
Enter Tim Leyshon (A2). Not to be out done by Eric last week, the big fella had exactly the same problem even remembering he played the game. The big fella even had to go home and get the pants he also forgot to bring for the game. Lucky these blokes are great cricketers.
Theyer following you
Just like a script from an Alfred Hitchcock film they came again the bees at Bannockburn. Given Erics quick exist from the game to hold up a chemist last week for preventive bee sting treatment he recounted with passion how the swarm approached this time targeting Peter Taylor who did the right thing and hit the deck. Added to this, young Gav Taylor took delight in reminding everyone that he always get stung at the ground. Havent told the lads yet, but this is the likely venue for the Final.
