As one of the ‘events’ to celebrate our 60th Anniversary coming up this season we have booked Bradman Oval for Sunday 3rd December as a Club Day. So stay tuned and we will keep you informed of next steps.

Kanga
Our Club Ambassador, Dom Thornely is back in action for the NSW Blues. What a performance in the game against the Qld Bulls. He scored 97 and put on 205 with Brad Haddin. Well done mate. Keep a watch out also as Dom will be coming down to Kanga shortly to meet the kids.

Girls update
Our Girls are also tracking very well. We have 2 teams this year (a B and C grade side). The girls kick off on the 21st also. Looks like a good season coming up.

Coach required
Folks we need a 1 more coach for our juniors. This is for our Girls B Grade Team. The Girls are between 13 and 16 so if anyone is interested then please let Ross Anderson know.

Seniors

Round 4 started on the weekend and the results are:

A1 238 drew with St Ives 7/165. A fabulous comeback from the lads after struggling initially. Matt Dawson with 71 and Troy Newman 62 were brilliant, putting on 118 for the 2nd wicket. After having St Ives 6/43 they made 7/165 for the match to end in a draw. Well done to big Matt Spalding who took 6/22 to bring up his 100th career wicket. We need a win to pull back the gap from the leaders but this is a very good side with upside.
Colts 114 lost to Vs Hornsby 9/168. Result was disappointing against a team certainly no better than us-bowling and fielding was fine but batting has its moments. Dylan Brogan - fantastic 4-22 incl a hatrick and 4 wickets in 5 balls. This is the 31st hat-trick in our hisory - well done Dylan.
A2 6/314 drew with Kenthurst 7/309. A thriller going down to the last over. Not a lot in the bowling on day 2 with only James Makin (2/71 off 17) and Ranga 2/24 making an impact.
B1 Red 8/220 defeated Kenthurst 218. An important win to keep the momentum but so exciting. James Mielnik with 64, Scott Forbes 59 and Tim Millington 29* did the job but it gets better. Eric Junkkari, replaying his effort in B1 way back in 1994/95, slammed a 6 in the last over to win the game. Then there was the courage of James Mielnik who came down with back problems at 40 and just stood smashed his way to 64. Added to this was Eric’s 300th Club wicket. Something special brewing for these boys.
B1 Blue 152 lost to CHRSL 198 – after resuminh at 2/10 overnight we struugeld to 152 in 38 overs. There is always next week.
B2 266 defeated outright Kissing Point 84 and 135. Batting on overnight we posted a good score - we won this one in the 2nd last over of the game. Adam Walter with 4/38 and then 6 wickets for 32 was superb and Tim Connell just keeps doing the job with 3 for. In the batting big Gav Hassett scored 81 and Adam Walter scored 50. Gav’s 81 also brought up his 3,000 Club runs. The 10 wicket haul by Adam is only the 42nd time this has happened in our history. Well done Adam.
C1 65 and 3/234 lost to Beecroft 2/175. Finally showing what we can do this is a creditable loss. After having one of those days last week we were left with 52 overs to recover the 110 run deficiency. We did it in style. Ross A (81 with 15 boundaries) and John Nesbitt (102*) put on 132 for the 2nd wicket. Added to this some good batting from Nathan Fathers and Tim Lim and we took honours on day 2. John’s ton was our 319th. Get the catching right fella’s and we can be a force.
C2 8/250 defeated Vs Kenthurst 181. A welcome return to thhe winners list. Runs were well spread with Rolf Rassmussen scoring 79, Sunit Sibramani 58 wityh Phil Hando 36 and j Foley 30* all contributing. WEell done also to Rolf (3/35) and Senthu with 4/40.
C3 64 and 8/238 lost to Wahroonga 9/238 – another fabulous day 2 effort for our boys. After being 3/13 early in the 2nd innings Chris Williamson (50) and Steve Baker (78) put on 139 for the 4th wicket and they were superb. Part of the drive was a decision not to recall Peter Heidegger after he was given out to what appeared a dead ball.
D2 56 and 1/186 lost to Hornsby 256. While losing last week this is a 3rd side to show they have something special in reserve. The day 2 star was James McBrien with 110* - his 1st ton in seniors. This is also our 318th century. Well done mate. now, if only we can do this in the first innings.

Tons
Apologies to Nigel Moore (D2) who scored his first ton – 104* Vs Kissing Point on the 14th. A great effort and this was our 316th century.

After a slow start, our lads have now hit 8 tons – well on our way to challenging the record 18 scored in 2002/03.

Heads you lose
Had to share this one with you. It is a classic match report from Roger, our C3 Captain last week.

“C3's had a cold a miserable day. It started with the toss, I call heads while Alf James (Wahroonga captain) tossed the coin. The coin did indeed land on a head ,mine, but then fell to the ground tails up.

We were asked to bat and in the cold dark and blustery conditions only Chris Williamson looked solid. We were all out at tea for just 64. It was after tea however, that our woes really took hold. Our bowlers bowled well in the tricky conditions and created a stream of opportunities but with cold hands and bodies it completely deserted us. The dropped catch count rose well into double figures before one was held to stop the rot.

A day to forget as far the cricket was concerned, but I doubt if any of us will complain about fielding in 40 degree heat (like last week) again”.

Did you hear about the time
Must be something about these tail enders. Steve Quanborough, great bloke, top spin bowler and number 11 bat spotted me in the Club after the game. Steve wanted to make sure that we recorded his A2 Grade 22* in 2 hours 13 minutes way back in round 3. Great effort mate and keep that aggregate building!

With friends like this
Big Mike Banner fresh from his 100 the last week was glowing in his praise of evolving Club icon James Makin (A2 star bowler). After James 7 wicket haul he commented that “James has been bowling s…all year but bowled well today and only got 2 wickets” – good one MB.

A bit of excitement to start the day
The mighty B1 Red’s were playing at Dural Park yesterday – a windy day. Somehow, someone managed to set fire to a pile of bark at the ground and started a fire. With the fire station next door and a fire raging the boys eventually managed to put the blaze out. The fire station was unaffected by the blaze to the extent that no one was too interested.

The chain
B1 Red have an amazing scorebook – one I haven’t seen the like of before. The first game is Normanhurst Vs Kissing Point. Round 2 is then between Kissing Point and Kenthurst. Somehow, castle Hill managed to get involved and their game against Kenthurst is recorded. Now after round 4 we have the book after playing Kenthurst. This must be the most unloved scorecook in Club history.

Points table
While the points table is available team by team through the DCA website http://www.cricketnsw.com.au/hkhdca/ the summary position follows:

So far it is early days but of our 10 teams, 9 are in the top 4. Only A1 is outside the pack but they are a good side and will be there at the end.

A1 – 3 points (8th position) – 10 off 4th
A2 – 9 (4th)
Colts – 8 (4th)
B1 Red – 18 (1st)
B1 Blue – 8 (= 4th)

C1 – 8 (=4th)
C2 – 13 (=2nd) 1 point off 1st place
C3 – 13 (=3rd )
D2 – 13 (=2nd)

Personal achievements
All teams now have updated scorecards so our personal achievements are up to date as at the end of Round 4.

We have now had 2 major milestones achieved over the last 2 weeks:

Michael Banner’s 103 brought up his 3,000th run for the Club bringing him to number 25 on the all time list
• Matt Spalding's 100 career wickets
