West Pennant Hills Cherrybrook Cricket Club Est. 1930

Round 3 update - 8th October 2006

Away
I will be away on business until the 18th October so there will be delay in updates for a couple of weeks.

Bradman Oval match
As one of the ‘events’ to celebrate our 60th Anniversary coming up this season we have booked Bradman Oval for Sunday 3rd December as a Club Day. So stay tuned and we will keep you informed of next steps.

Centenary cricket match
Hornsby Shire celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. One of the celebrations is a special Centenary cricket match involving a number of local cricketing identities – Trevor Chappell, Bob Holland, Paul Wade (ex Socceroo Captain), Matt Dunning and many more. Details of the match are:
• When: Sunday15th October
• Where: Waitara Oval
• Time: between 10.00am and 3.30pm

Come along and enjoy the day.

Web update
We continue to get a record number of hits on the website. In September we had 3,558 hits – a September month record. Our all time record is 3,798 in October last year.

Girls update
Our Girls are also tracking very well. We will probably have 2 teams this year (a B and C grade side). The girls kick off on the 21st also. Looks like a good season coming up.

Juniors
The Juniors go into recess over the school holidays and go back to the field on Saturday 14th October.

Kanga update
Kanga is about to kick off on the 21st October. We have a capacity turnout with 112 children playing – all on Edward Bennett Oval. Unfortunately we have had to turn a number of children to Beecroft to give them a game but when the game is this popular at least the kids are playing.

We also had a fabulous volunteers update last week. How about this one – 65 volunteers our of 112 families – must be almost a world record!

A light moment
Two 90 year old men, Nev and Vic, have been friends all their lives. Vic is dying, so Nev comes to visit him every day.

"Vic," says Nev, "You know how we have both loved cricket all our lives, and how we played together for so many years. Vic, you have to do me one favour.

When you get to Heaven, and I know you will go to Heaven, somehow you've got to let me know if there's cricket in Heaven."

Vic looks up at Nev from his death bed, and says, "Nev, you've been my best friend many years. If it is at all possible, I'll try to let you know."

Shortly after that, Vic passes on.

At midnight a couple of nights later. Nev is sound asleep when he is awakened by a blinding flash of white light. A voice calls out to him, "Nev....Nev...."

"Who is it?" says Nev sitting up suddenly. "Who is it?"

"Nev, it's me, Vic."

"Come on. You're not Vic. Vic just died."

"I'm telling you," insists the voice. "It's me, Vic!"

"Vic ? Is that you? Where are you?"

"I'm in heaven," says Vic , "and I've got to tell you, I've got really good news and some bad news."
"So, tell me the good news first," says Nev.

"The good news is that there is cricket in Heaven. Better yet, all our old chums who've gone before us are here too.

And better still, we're all young men again.

Even better, it's always springtime and it never rains or snows.

And best of all, we can play cricket all we want and we never get tired!"

"Really?" says Nev, "That is fantastic, wonderful beyond my wildest dreams!

But, what's the bad news?" asks Nev.

"You're opening the batting next Tuesday".

Coach required
Folks we need 1 more coach for our juniors. This is for our Girls B Grade Team. The Girls are between 13 and 16 so if anyone is interested then please let Ross Anderson know.
