29th September (Day 2 Round 2)
Bradman Oval match
As one of the events to celebrate our 60th Anniversary coming up this season we have booked Bradman Oval for Sunday 3rd December as a Club Day. So stay tuned and we will keep you informed of next steps.
Dominic is back
After a very successful spell in England Dominic is back playing for Northern Districts and is playing at Waitara Oval this weekend. Pop down and have a look if you get the chance.
Juniors
Results will be updated as they come through.
Seniors
Day 2 of Round 2 is now completed. Summary results are:
A1 82 lost to Normanhurst 2/84. The final 1-dayer on the season start. After being 1/49 off 10 a combination of good catching and poor shot selection saw us miss out on the good start. This is a good team that is stronger than our semi finalists last season so good things to look forward to.
A2 187 defeated ARL 45 and 3/108. What a way to defend a solid if not huge total. All this down to James Makin who took 6/13 (including 4 overthows). A powerful all round performance from the lads.
Colts start this Sunday.
B1 Blue 8/265 defeated St Ives 185. After hammering St Ives with Dan Moye top scoring with 90, Bruce Poehlson 48 and Rowan Keating 35 we turned up the heat. In the bowling Andrew Joyce made a welcome return with 5/43. Looking good for a B1 Red Vs B1 Blue Final an early call but stay tuned.
B1 Red 264 defeated Berowra 152 and 3/112. Another solid win. Nathan Orton and Steve Barraclough both took 3 for. We went for the outright but no success here. The boys have depth all around the park so could be a big year for both B1 sides.
B2 3/175 defeated outright Hornsby 59 and 3/21. Final scores are yet through but an outright result here is inevitable.
C1 122 lost to Ku-ring-gai Chase 5/275. We always needed a big effort to reach this total. After starting solidly the loss of 3 wickets through good bowling and catching out us on the back foot. John Nesbitt was the undoubted star with 51 and looked very good. Andrew Watt also chipped in with a quick 21.
C2 89 and 143 lost to Beecroft 4/172. A better day 2 with Joshua Kleinhans top scoring with 39. The team has a good base and will build well over the year.
C3 112 and 1/80 lost to St Ives 294. After a bye in Round 1 this was our first hit-out. The second innings showed the capacity with 1/80 after batting from 3.00pm to 5.30pm in the 2nds innings. Roger Friend and Chris Williamson did the job in the 2nd innings.
D2 243 defeated Kissing Point 154 and 3/88. What a performance! Aftef being 5/46 overnight we put on a record 7th wicket partnership of 103 with Jeff Starr 126* and his son Tim 44. This is our 312th century and 1st of the year. Even better still is that this partnership is a 7th wicket D2 Club record and was only 44 short of the Association record way back in 1984. It passed the previous D2 best of 79 set by Faisal and Rolf Rasmussen last year. Well done fellas. These boys have some ticker so big things are expected this year boys.
Coach required
Folks we need a 1 more coach for our juniors. This is for our Girls B Grade Team. The Girls are between 13 and 16 so if anyone is interested then please let Ross Anderson know.
What a Club Man
Spare a thought for our A Grade Captain, Simon Smyth. Snumpty is an AFL tragic to the extent that he is the AFL Development Manager for our area. Rather than take to day off to watch the Grand Final Simon was out there playing so as not to let the team down. Folks, with this sort of commitment from every player no one would stop any team. Good on you mate.
Tim to the rescue
Good one Tim. Colts Captain, Club icon and living legend, Greg Fiedler can't play this Sunday (the Grand Final is on) so Tim Leyshon is taking up the role of Colts Captain and mentor. Thanks Tim but we need to check if the Court Orders allow this one.
Welcome back James
One of our favourite sons is James Makin a long term Club man who lived in Europe for a few years. He is now back and playing his first full season since 2001-02. What a comeback. Taking 6/13 in A2 against a good side is outstanding but it could have been 6/9 except for 4 overthrows. James already sits at number 7 in the all time list with 316 wickets well done mate.
Back at the Club
We usually have a fabulous turnout back at the WPH Sports Club after games but over the last couple of weeks it has been a bit light on. Make the effort to come back, it is a long standing tradition. If anyone needs to be a Club member we offer free first year membership - just see your Captain. So....look forward to seeing you back there.
Volunteers
Sometimes everyone in sporting Clubs across the country has a problem getting enough volunteers to do the work. Not in our Kanga Division. How about this achievement. We have 112 children registered (the ground capacity) and 65 volunteers to help out in some capacity a record for us and maybe most other Clubs around the country.
Girls
Registrations can continue to be received right up to the season start and in some case beyond. Practice will also be arranged at a specific time and place closer to the start of the season. So far we have a C Grade side in place and with School visits about to start we should clock up a B grade team.
Competition starts on the 21st October.
