Hello. The WPHCCC site uses a technology called Cascading Style Sheets ("CSS") to arrange how the web pages appear on screen. If you've reached this page, then you browser is probably not able to properly understand CSS.
The CSS specification has been around since 1996 (almost seven years before this site was developed) and has been in widespread use since 1999.
Despite this, some web browsers do not properly understand how to display CSS elements, and so do not show web pages the way they were intended. This may be because the browser software is very old (such as Netscape 4.x or earlier), or because the browser developer has, for some reason, not fully implemented the CSS specifications.
Since CSS forms a major part of the way modern web content is presented, it is definitely recommended that you upgrade to new browser which is better able to understand CSS content. Most browsers are freely downloadable and usable. Upgrading is usually fairly straightforward in most cases, and should generally enhance your web browsing experience. In addition, older browsers can be more susceptible to security comprises, such as viruses and "trojan horse" attacks, so it is a safer practice to stay current.
Some suggested browsers are listed in the table below, along with their supported operating systems.
| Browser | Version | Operating Systems |
|---|---|---|
| Mozilla | 1.4 | MacOS X, Linux, Windows, Unix |
| Safari | 1.0 | MacOS X |
| Internet Explorer | 6 SP1 | Windows |
| Opera | 6.0 or 7.0 | Windows, MacOS, Linux, OS/2, Unix |
We hope that you will take advantage of one of these CSS-compliant browsers and return to visit us soon!
